Some supply chains are very long. If each link along the way adds just a little to the cost by the time it reaches the consumer the price is outrageous.

We make our own chex mix and I was surprised to find the triple box for about $7.50. That is about half of usual price. I think it was at Costco, but I could be mistaken.
