This particular variant of the hantavirus, the Andes virus, cans be passed from human to human, though it does take fairly close contact for that to occur.
This is not a "massive outbreak" at this time, so you can just toss that out of your conspiracy packet...
And there is absolutely nothing "new" about the hantavirus, it's been around for a while. It was first identified in the Hantaan River area of Korea during the Korean War when a major outbreak affected 3,000 US troops, but any anyone with a lick of sense knows it's been around a lot longer. There was a second outbreak in the Four Corners area of the U.S. in 1993, which I remember quite well.
