People surrounding Nashville have been without power for 36-48 hours now.
People are cold....hungry and a bit grumpy.
My wife works at Vanderbilt hospital remotely....we no longer live in the area.
BUT
All her coworkers do....they've been having a rough time.
We've offered our home to the doctors and their families but we live 7 hrs away.

Do you live in the middle TN area too?Power outages here are spread apart while the grid is intact, and the outages are restricted to outlying areas where direct service is an issue. The roads are a compete mess though, and mostly hard packed ice an inch to two inches thick. It would be safer to drive in the ditch where there may still be some sleet that isn't hard packed and that may allow some traction, than on the roads.
However, the Sheriff's Department is a bit fed up with people and has come just short of saying, "We have repeated told y'all to stay off the roads and we are sick and tired of having to rescue your stupid ass."
You have masochistic tendencies. What makes you ask such a thing?

Its gonna be a mess for a while yet. My guess is two weeks before all is well again. At this point thawing out wont help....only possibly causing some flooding. But the linemen will be able to repair the damage. Nashville and surrounding areas are full of trees next to roads....which have power lines too.
I remember when Clarksville had a bad ice storm and almost the whole city was without power. People took to cooking on their bbq grills in the front yard for weeks.
Plumbing repairs took a bit longer....
Its minus 31 here now. I love it. Time to take a walk.
Buy some expensive good clothes. No freezing possible. $500 jacket on. Its worth it.At least if you slip on ice, fall over and freeze to death, you'll still be fresh by Springtime when everything thaws.
it just won't stop snowing......~S~

Learn to appreciate the snow. Maybe if you are lucky you get a few more of these storms.I was afraid of this!--- a sure sign of global warming!![]()
Snowmageddon is no problem for me. It was in the 80s in Key West and the Bahamas. You all have my sympathies. I just wonder how many tree limbs I will be picking up when I get home.
