SnowMageddon?

The dog and I took a hike this morning on about 2-3" of sleet sitting on top of an inch of ice and all frozen solid.
We got out and about a far distance until she figured out all that white crap didn't ever end and the wind chill was not really that awesome.

Taking care of business wasn't really fun for her either, and sitting by the fire inside with cat is way better.
My central heat is gas, it gets toasty pretty quick and doesn't have to run long to warm the house, plus it's pretty cheap to run.
Hot water heater is gas too, and if I didn't have a generator and the power went out (which it hasn't yet), I still wouldn't freeze to death, because I could still take a hot shower.

The grab yourself a 4 wheel drive vehicle. Problem solved.
A) that doesn’t solve all the difficulties of driving in snowstorms

B) it does nothing about the dangers of other drivers

Driving in snowy conditions is dangerous. Period

Some of us work jobs where we can’t just be given the day off

Most people don't really know how to drive in that crap down here (not really hard, just no experience).

However, my closest neighbor's wife is a nurse and as you mentioned some jobs are kind of necessary.
He has some experience from working on power plants all over the country as a traveling electrician, so he spends a few hours in the morning and the evening when the weather gets bad carpooling all the nurses to work and back home.

Depends on visibility

Generally during a snowstorm is when i go take a ride in my truck. But im not driving main interstates.

Generally, when we get mess like this, I do what I am about to do and fire up the smoker around 9 in the morning, get it good and hot, before throwing on a 5-8 pound pork loin or brisket. Then I check the fire a few times during the day and let it slow smoke for about 9-10 hours. :heehee:

Edit:
Almost 9:30, the smoker is running between 350°-400°, meat is on, but the fire will slow down in an hour after laying some groundwork for decent "bark" at the moment. Located a bottle of 1792 Single Barrel someone gave me for Christmas, and although I won't get into it just yet, that should make the day and tending the fire occasionally a little better.

It's -30 here in my part of Canada and it's time to continue reading your posts. ;)
I love Canada. The hunting and fishing up there is 10000x better than our hunting and fishing here. I gotta hand it to you guys you know how to manage your wild resources. I am too old to do those trips anymore but i think i put more of my $$$ into your economy than ours when i was able.

Ever been to Saskatchewan. We get a lot of Americans here. Met one at a hotel who was from Florida, a heart surgeon. He was here to hunt Canada Geese.

Yes ive been whitetail hunting there. Those are big beautiful deer. Its real hunting up there vs farm plots fown here and people think theyre good hunters sitting over a food plot. Its laughable what we in the us call hunting.

I live in the "Sportsman's Paradise" and nowhere near Cananda, although I am sure the hunting and fishing is pretty good up there. I did take a trip with friends to catch salmon in Alaska once and it was nice, except for the fact the bears and a lot bigger there, than the black bears we have here.

We caught some fish, and had some great fun.
The Stampede in Calgary Alberta was also fun when I went there years ago, before panning for gold in Jasper (not very productive but interesting just the same), and then heading to the Columbian Icefields.

Ever gone moose hunting? The best place to go is Newfoundland. They were introduced there around 1905. No one realised they fucked liked rabbits because there's about 125,000 now. Only 500,000 people.

I live almost as far from Canada as you can get in the US, and we have recently acquired about 35 Canadas they stay here in the area year-round. About 30 miles down the road and deep off into ranch territory, there are some Greater Canadas that stay here all year.

Those Greater Canadas are some big geese. :auiqs.jpg:
We get enough "specks" to goose hunt, and pretty much leave the Canadas alone, because they are kind of cool even though they can get noisy.
