SnowMageddon?

I'm surprised you have power.

I have a whole house generator, but the main power is still on.

There are areas within 12 miles that are out of power, but it hasn't gotten bad enough that I can walk out back and it sounds like combat from limbs busting under the weight. It probably won't be long until that starts happening though.

Well, heres to hoping the blackouts pass you by.

So, the trees are beginning to burst in the cold, then? They warned that might happen.

Thanks for the good wishes but I will be fine with or without main power.

The trees here aren't used to the cold and ice, and extra weight will bust limbs, split weak trees, and we get some limited "crown death" that causes problems long afterwards.

I sit comfortably at home this evening (1829 Saturday), just got back from a packed Church service. The temperature is high single digits, the roads are perfectly clear now, and the forecast is that it will start snowing around 0200 and keep snowing for at least 12 hours, depositing about a foot of the white stuff.

Grocery stores have been packed for the past couple days, my gym was full to overflowing this morning, and it looks like virtually everyone is hunkered down, expecting the worst (best?).

My condo community has a first-rate snow removal company, and hopefully nobody will drive around on the parking lot before the plows, making clearing more difficult.

I am driving to Florida a week from today, and this month of January has been the longest month of my life.

How about you? Are you in the main snowstorm area? Temperatures unusually frigid? Dealing with it OK?

I saw this storm on the news a few days ago, nowhere near MI. I'm no meteorologist or even close, but I know most lows that go well down into TX in the winter end up swinging toward us. Every day the storm gets closer and closer it seems to me. We're only forecasted for 1-3 in of snow at this point, but it wouldn't surprise me if we "beat" that. I'll will check in tomorrow whether I'm right or wrong

When I was growing up, a foot of snow was just a common snowfall. No big deal. You just went out and dealt with it. Maybe 1 day of bad roads but by the 2nd day after the snowfall, it was all back to business as usual.

Pretty much the same here in Ohio.
But I'm not young anymore. Anything more than about 3 inches of the stuff is a nightmare for me anymore.
I ******* hate snow. 😡

I'm chilling in south-west Cleveland... waiting for the snow to start.

My forecast goes as follows:

WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 12 and 18 inches, with localized amounts up to 22 inches. Northwest winds gusting as high as 35 mph Monday afternoon will cause areas of blowing and drifting snow.

WHERE...Portions of central New York and northeast Pennsylvania.

WHEN...From 1 AM Sunday to 7 PM EST Monday.

IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult or impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow will overspread Northeast PA and the New York Southern Tier between 4 AM and 7 AM Sunday morning, moving north to the I-90 corridor by the mid-morning hours on Sunday. At this time, the heaviest snowfall is forecast to fall across the northern tier of Northeast PA, Catskills and Susquehanna region of NY. However, minor adjustments to storm total snowfall are still possible. Snowfall will likely be very heavy at times Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening with hourly rates exceeding 2 to 3 inches per hour. The snow tapers down, becoming light to moderate after midnight Sunday night into Monday morning. Occasional light snow and blowing snow then continue into Monday afternoon. Temperatures will be very cold throughout this storm, hovering in the upper single digits to teens the entire time, with colder wind chills.
Sweet

Driving skills are lacking yes.
My wife was a visiting nurse, she had to go to her patients no matter the weather.
We had a heavy 5.2L Jeep Grand Cherokee with knobby snow tires. That Jeep was a tank that went thru anything, even unplowed country roads. Now all we can get are pansy 4-cyl SUVs.

/-----/ My condo's snow clearing and salting are top-notch, too. At 7:45 I'm heading to Sunday mass, then home to ride out the storm.

It's snowing lightly now on Long Island with about 1/4 accumulation.
Prediction of 1 foot in the next 24 hours. Our condo is 100% electric. Hope the power holds out.

There are 54 days remaining until the official first day of spring in New York.

I have a couple of electric baseboard heaters in my house that cost a lot to run. I cannot imagine my whole house on electric.

What do you pay a month?

/—-/ My two floor condo is sandwiched between others so I’m pretty much insulated in the winter. I pay about $130 a month.

11" here and plenty more to go.
Diagnosed with a hernia last week, no idea how I can get out. Teens today have no interest in earning money when their parents buy them whatever they want - or - they are just too lazy.
It really is one or the other.
