I sit comfortably at home this evening (1829 Saturday), just got back from a packed Church service. The temperature is high single digits, the roads are perfectly clear now, and the forecast is that it will start snowing around 0200 and keep snowing for at least 12 hours, depositing about a foot of the white stuff.

Grocery stores have been packed for the past couple days, my gym was full to overflowing this morning, and it looks like virtually everyone is hunkered down, expecting the worst (best?).

My condo community has a first-rate snow removal company, and hopefully nobody will drive around on the parking lot before the plows, making clearing more difficult.

I am driving to Florida a week from today, and this month of January has been the longest month of my life.

How about you? Are you in the main snowstorm area? Temperatures unusually frigid? Dealing with it OK?

I asked my dispatcher to send me a load to Florida so I don't have to drive in that crap.

I'm now sitting near Tampa enjoying a relaxing beautiful evening in the 70's.

All vehicles under cover (I hate cleaning snow off them), my shovels, snowblower and 4-wheeler w/plow staged and ready!.....Bring it!

It's supposed to start tonight at around 2100 here....Supposed to end around 1600 tomorrow.

10-14"+ expected.....Hopefully I can get it all moved by dark.

The older i get, the more i love the cold and snow. A foot of snow is childs play. Learn to like it.

I think it sucks....I won't be able to get to my range for a damn month.

I remember one year (must have been around '85) it snowed about a foot before Thanksgiving, got blue ass cold, and stayed that way.

There was still snow in the side ditches in early Spring Gobbler season!

Damn unusual in my AO.

The cold affects nobody. I remember being in NC and we got 6binches of snow. We drove around the next morning observing all those people in ditches as they were clueless. Like people are so stupid as they dont know how to drive in snow? We just laughed.

Over a dusting of snow? Good god thats nothing.

I live in southern Utah a mile above sea level. Though we do get our share of snow, it's been a very mild winter this season and we're not in the path of the storm that about to hit you. We had a light dusting of snow this morning but the forecast calls for sun and clear skies for the next several days.

I'm a prepper. I have a year's supply of freeze dried food; lots of stored water and a water purifier; three back up generators (two solar and a propane); and I live 50 yards from where I work so I never have to drive in snow or ice (though I'm very experienced driving in those conditions).

My ex lives in eastern Kansas. She's bracing for bad weather but the one thing she got from our marriage was the importance of preparing so she thinks she should be fine. Anyway ... I hope everyone has a means to stay warm should the power go out.

A snowstorm only causes as much upheavel as people want.

I'm old bub, I like long months and long days. Time goes by too fast. I don't care about the snow. As long as I have a room with some heat and a roof that does not leak.

I'm not as hardcore as the Canucks with snow. But I'm ready for anything the Rustbelt throws at me.

For some, a snow storm is a very rare event and they're not the slightest bit prepared for it. I lived in northern Utah for 2 years and Denver, CO for 17 years. Snow was expected. But people in the south haven't learned the necessary skills and steps for survival. I'm not too concerned about northerners. I'm very concerned about southerners.

Driving skills are lacking yes.

It's 10 degrees in Tulsa and there's snow everywhere and more coming. In Los Angeles the first drop of rain brings the whole freeway to a screeching halt, in NY they speed up to make it home before it starts snowing for real. Tulsa doesn't really get northern snow, we get tornado cellars instead. Those damn things are a lot scarier than a little snowstorm.

All we are getting is sleet and freezing rain, but it is up to about an inch to two inches of sleet on top of three quarters of an inch of ice at the moment and expecting a lot more overnight and tomorrow as temperatures drop.

Snow would be much better and more fun.

I'm surprised you have power.

My forecast goes as follows:

WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 12 and 18 inches, with localized amounts up to 22 inches. Northwest winds gusting as high as 35 mph Monday afternoon will cause areas of blowing and drifting snow.

WHERE...Portions of central New York and northeast Pennsylvania.

WHEN...From 1 AM Sunday to 7 PM EST Monday.

IMPACTS...Travel could be very difficult or impossible. The hazardous conditions could impact the Monday morning and evening commutes.

ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Snow will overspread Northeast PA and the New York Southern Tier between 4 AM and 7 AM Sunday morning, moving north to the I-90 corridor by the mid-morning hours on Sunday. At this time, the heaviest snowfall is forecast to fall across the northern tier of Northeast PA, Catskills and Susquehanna region of NY. However, minor adjustments to storm total snowfall are still possible. Snowfall will likely be very heavy at times Sunday afternoon into Sunday evening with hourly rates exceeding 2 to 3 inches per hour. The snow tapers down, becoming light to moderate after midnight Sunday night into Monday morning. Occasional light snow and blowing snow then continue into Monday afternoon. Temperatures will be very cold throughout this storm, hovering in the upper single digits to teens the entire time, with colder wind chills.
