I think these people need to find a better family that has a sense of humor. I'm not sure why the back gate got damaged, but obviously a poorly planned joke that just went south from there. Obviously, the people who broke the gate just need to fix or pay to get it fixed, no need for cops here, just better jokes and better people to play it on.
