Alaska became the 49th U.S. state on January 3, 1959, through the Alaska Statehood Act. The population of Alaska tripled between 1945 and 1970, growing from 79,000 people to 220,000.

Let's not make that mistake again.

Build-up enough of a population base and you've got enough to apply for Statehood in a decade or so.
