Should police unions be abolished?

Police unions have a long history of actively protecting dirty cops.

Officers with long histories of bribery, planting evidence, excessive force, and even sexual harassment, have retained their jobs for years despite multiple attempts of firing them.

This is because the union contracts in many cities make it nearly impossible for an officer to be fired for any reason.

Some cities have outright abolished their police unions fired all unionized police officers, and hired a new non-union police force, and crime in those cities have gone down as has the cost of maintaining the police force without having to pay fees to the union.

Some former police officers have even said that you need officials didn't care if an officer was corrupt or not they saw it as their duty to protect officers regardless of their actions, and that Union officials had winter's far as threatening to withhold assistance to officers who cooperate with internal affairs investigations into their fellow officers. police unions have gotten to the point where they see it as their job to cover up for the crimes of dirty cops and punish any police officers who refuse to do that
ALL unions should be abolished. They all protect bad employees. ESPECIALLY the teachers unions

Treasurer Of Law Enforcement Union Pleads Guilty To Tax Evasion And Lying To Federal Officers

Audrey Strauss, United States Attorney for the Southern District of New York, announced that STEVEN WHITTICK, the former treasurer of the Law Enforcement Employees Benevolent Association (“LEEBA”) and an officer with the New York City (the “City”) Department of Environmental Protection (“DEP”), pled guilty today before United States District Judge P. Kevin Castel, to charges of conspiring to evade more than $250,000 in federal taxes, including payroll taxes owed by LEEBA and its employees, and his own personal income taxes. WHITTICK also pled guilty to lying to federal officers during the course of the investigation in this case. LEEBA is a labor union that represents certain law enforcement officers employed by the City, including officers from DEP, the City Department of Sanitation, and the City Department of Transportation.

The Left is anti-Union now? I can't keep up with your fleeting and ephemeral convictions.

I would go farther and stop all government protection to the filthy unions like non right to work laws and Davis-Bacon.
Davis Bacon was originally intended to protect local white workers earning high wages from competition from low earning blacks from put of town.

Non union employers have to pay much higher wages to qualify as prevailing wage, because benefits don't count unless it's a labor union.

Goes with the Miller Act, bonding for payment and performance in lieu of rights to lien the property for public works with eminent domain.

Unions, both public and private, have a history in fact it’s their job to protect bad employees.

Bad employees often get to remain on, getting paid.

With that said, there is a good argument…actually made by FDR that all public unions should be banned. That of course won’t happen so long as the dems are around. They make massive donations to the party in a quid pro relationship

As police departments and prisons are abolished there is no longer a need for police unions.

Yes, all public sector unions should be abolished, they’re an inherent conflict of interest.

While we’re at it get rid of qualified immunity for law enforcement as well, officers need to be held fully accountable for their own actions.

That would open up a whole new area of practice for lawyers.

The police are unnecessary. Use social workers. No police, no jails, no courts.
This is what it looks like when people give up.

Since when is civil liability a “whole new area for lawyers” ? Would you rather the tax payers be held civilly accountable for a cop that goes off the deep end and illegally kills an innocent civilian while on duty?

Why would you think the police are unnecessary? They’re very necessary that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be personally accountable for what they do while on duty. Nor does it mean that they should have unions where both sides of the bargaining table are stacked against the interests of the tax payer.

I assumed she was being sarcastic.

Do you know what a capper is? There will be cappers for police complaints just like there are accident cappers and medical malpractice cappers. That's why police have qualified immunity. Not absolute immunity but qualified immunity.

Not according to Republicans they are the devil's playground full of socialist and communist.

Hey dumbfuck, it's because that's mostly right.

Unions were initially built by the mafia and take a guess why? You figure the money they take from employee's pockets helps anyone? FUCK that's stupid. I know a guy who was a bigly in the Teamsters union. Bet your ass it was built by the mafia, they used trust money for their own investments. Course they paid it back with interest (cough!)

How does qualified immunity change that? All it means is that instead of suing anofficer that committed an act that could be held civilly liable they end up suing the government authority in charge of said officer, which is in effect suing the TAX PAYER.

Why should tax payers be on the hook for what one of their public employees did? Doesn’t that discourage restraint on the part of law enforcement? Cop burns your house down and your recourse is in effect suing yourself for compensation.

The VAST majority of officers are responsible public servants however the minority that aren’t need to be held fully and solely accountable for actions that cross the line.

The vast majority of public servants will get sued just as much as the worst. Anyone with something to lose will just choose not to take the risk .and do something else. Look at the phony complaints lodged against police now. Pay these phonies and they will deliberately get into confrontations just to have a payday. Eventually the police will just degenerate into those with nothing to lose. They will become ultimately corrupt getting in for all they can get as quickly as they can get it then get out.

All government employee unions should be abolished. It was one of the few things that FDR was right about.

Unions should be only a free market apparatus. And then they should have unlimited use of their market power. Government should not be involved
