Because a requirement of the job is to risk their lives in defense of others. Proven by the number of police killed in the line of duty. That's why. Because we have job requirements thar police officers face the most dangerous and vicious savages we have. That's why. Because we only give them qualified immunity as it is. That's why. Make it even more difficult and dangerous to be a police officer and people will do something else. They can work for private security as a mercenary. Leave the streets to vigilantes.

Just stop. Cops simply do not have an especially dangerous job. I'm more likely to die on the job than a cop is.
