And actually, they continue to live in a fish bowl for most of the rest of their lives. Personally, I wish GWB would go away and we'd never hear of him again, but Jimmy Carter is still making news today, Bush I has probably done the best job of "disappearing" after his term in modern history, but still even he is heard from quite often and I'm sure watched like a hawk.

It's this cult of personality that we've created in the 70's and 80's. Personally, I think that while you're in office, you should be watched after, but, when you leave office, your television coverage should stop UNTIL you do SOMETHING ELSE noteworthy. Then, take another 15 minutes, move on, and let someone else have some notoriety.

Only trouble is, people like Drew Peterson, the Octo-Mom, the YouTube divorce lady, and all those others cling to it like a person who can't swim clings to a life preserver.

I blame shit like American Idol and Dancing with the Stars.

You know.......I really don't care if I become famous or not, personally, I'd only like a few people to know me well enough to drop by my house unannounced, and the rest could just leave me alone (at least, unless I was on something like a book tour or giving a speech), but after I gave the people face time, then I'd want them to leave me alone again.

Oh yeah........Paris Hilton is one of those cult of personality types as well.

Gee, I'm glad I take breaks from posting here. I've been noticing that some familiar names have turned up on this forum from another I used to post in, and the fun part is I can't remember if I liked them or not.

Harkening back to what Gunny wrote, you'd need to control your temper with this same sort of thing. BAC is certainly a socialist/communist leaning black man, but if he was a citizen of your town? He has the right to be heard, without being called names. For anyone, much less a public official to go off with epitaphs wouldn't be right. Got to control the temper.

Kath... I just explained what has irritated me here in the past, and even you should know that I've calmed down VOLUMES since the "old days." I explained that in the prior post. I don't have people mouth off to me in real life as they do here. You probably don't either, and I've seen you hand out some retaliation here yourself. Do you do that in real life? I think not. Even though I've been here for all those years, I don't think I know you, because I don't think you can know a person by just what they type here. If we ever met, I'd have to completely start from square one to get to know you. Same with me. The person I've been here isn't a good example of who and what I am, PERSONALLY. I've given my opinions and had some fun here and that's about it. But people talk shit here, that's just a fact. People can really get nasty here. You have to have pretty thick skin if you're going to enjoy yourself, because sooner or later somebody here is going to mouth off to you and call you names and insult you just because they disagree with you. The way the people act here isn't a good example of the way they act in their real life either. I HIGHLY doubt these same people go around insulting people the way they do here. Like I said, they'd wind up in the hospital, regularly. So, the point is, this board and what goes on here, including my demeanor, is NOT a good example of the person I really am. No ones conduct here is I don't think.

People usually like to say they're the same in RL as they are here.. yet you're here laying claim to multiple personalities.. I'm not so sure that'll work in what you're trying to do, either... I, for one, lip off in real life just the way I lip off here.. One major difference is on here, I come off as rather uncaring, which in real life is the farthest thing from the truth..But that's based more on actions than words. I expect the same is true of most people here...

Fact is, your temper is completely out of control an awful lot, and that's not going to serve you well in any line of work, much less something like city council or mayor... You're even starting to get really tense right now, defending yourself...(Yes, it actually comes across in just your typing).

No, not really. And maybe I didn't explain myself well enough. Simply put, there isn't a single person here that can say, "I know him," or "I know her," simply from the way they act and what they say here. Because if they could, that would make about 97% of the public a bunch of people that go around running their mouth spewing some of the nastiest, foulest personal insults constantly to others they know and meet... but they don't. If you say you do, fine. I don't. People are usually pretty nice to me in real life, and I'm pleasant to them in return. I haven't had anything even REMOTELY resembling any one of the knock down, drag out verbal brawls I've had here in real life that I can remember. Real life just does not mimic the way this board is. Not in my world anyway.

i have seen people go way outta their way to **** with people on the net...if you dont think that happens than you are very naive....i dont know who dislikes him enough to do it.....but if he has been on here 5 yrs i would say someone has enough personal info gleened about him to know what town he is in etc...people are not as hard to find as they pretend they are.....people on here are much less personal than many messageboards but i am sure people have gotten closer etc. it happens all the time...i do not know who may dislike pr that much but it would not surprise me....

That's not how you came across, tho.. You came across as stating that you know for a fact that someone here dislikes him enough to go out of their way to "get him". That's all I was questioning..I'm not the least bit naive..A lot of us know where each other is..but we're also pretty careful on how much info we give to whom. EX: Pale, I know only what town he's in, and his first name. A few others, I know far more.. It depends on the level of trust developed over time...And more yet, I know even less. I DO, however, know not to be so trustworthy in the future, as one person made my life a living hell about 3-4 years ago...

There's been much talk about messing with people on the board. It's Stalking, and it's illegal. But if someone was actually stupid enough to try it, they'd soon find out that they're messing around in my back yard, not to mention opening themselves up to a law suit. I'm well known and well liked here, and I rest assured that no one would give a rats behind about something I said on a blog board being drug up by some unknown outsider. It just doesn't matter. Other than that, I have nothing to hide.

And you're right... I did expect to get pretty well thumped up by the usual suspects when I posted this question.
