Apparently, California Democrats think it's deceptive for AI generated advertisements to show Karen Bass as the Joker because I guess the voters might think it's real? It's completely ludicrous for these people to actually believe these parodies would fall under a legal statute outlawing deepfakes. The bottom line is if they weren't worried Pratt could pull this off, they wouldn't be talking about this. Ultimately, I don't think he'll win, but he's making waves and bringing attention to the incompetence and corruption of the ruling party.
CAN’T BELIEVE MY EYES: Los Angeles mayoral candidate Spencer Pratt is the hero in the viral AI videos he shares: the Batman to Mayor Karen Bass’ Joker and the Luke Skywalker to her Darth Vader. But when it comes to following California campaign rules governing political deepfakes, key lawmakers are casting Pratt as the villain.
In separate interviews with POLITICO, Assemblymember Marc Berman and former Assemblymember Wendy Carrillo, both Democrats, said they believe Pratt’s actions may run afoul of laws they authored in recent years, which require public disclosures for certain AI-made campaign materials. Those laws aim to help voters know what’s real and what’s fake during campaign season.
“I was appalled by the videos and the audacity,” Carrillo told POLITICO. “Didn’t I write a law about this?”
