Sharia Law vs. the Constitution

i.e., you're shitting your pants over a "maybe". God forbid there be actual evidence that it's being considered. :cuckoo:

Maybe? The horse is already out of the stable on this one. Where have you been?

Judges in America have already ruled by sharia rather than our constitution. Happened to a muslim woman whose husband was repeatedly raping and attacking her. According to the judge he wasn't guilty due to his religious beliefs. ALAC challenged that one I believe because they later proved the judge had used sharia law.

That's the only case and it was overturned easily. It was wrong.

Judges make wrong rulings occassionally. Our legal system catches. So does that mean we need to make specific laws legalizing religious bigotry as a result?

Many more cases judged by sharia in Michigan according to a US Senator on youtube. The spokesperson for Michigan was trying to deny it but claiming no one was cutting off heads or hands which wasn't what she was saying. She was confronting Michigan about permitting sharia to be used in their courtrooms and all she was met with was denial.

What specific cases in Michigan?

Here's an interesting article on Michigan's proposed law:
After a similar law that passed in Oklahoma and mentioned Shariah specifically was overturned in the courts, Republican lawmakers in other states, with apparently nothing better to do, have been much more careful about keeping the S-word out of their bills. But there's little doubt about the purpose of the law proposed in Michigan. Its sponsor, state Rep. Dave Agema, has said that American Muslims "do not want to live under our law" and falsely said that President Barack Obama is a Muslim, which in Agema's view is bad because he thinks "just about every terrorist is a Muslim." In 2011, Agema invited Kamal Saleem, a self-proclaimed "ex-terrorist" to speak to the legislature about the threat of Islamic Shariah law, despite significant holes—some of them reported here—in Saleem's story.

Agema's bill would prevent "foreign law" from being applied if it would "result in a violation of constitutional rights." Now, if you're asking yourself why you need a bill stating that your constitutional rights can't be violated if you already have a Constitution, or how this bill would help if your constitutional rights are already being violated, then you've just realized why this bill is stupid. Agema's bill is similar to model legislation produced by David Yerushalmi, the conservative attorney who once urged the US to declare war on Islam and referred to liberal Jews as "parasites."

The Associated Press notes that other religious groups in the state, such as the Michigan Catholic Conference, have opposed the bill because it could affect not just Muslims but any religious group that chooses to enter into a contract based on their religious beliefs. Because Michigan has one of the largest Arab and Muslim populations in the country, it has frequently been the target of anti-Muslim paranoia and conspiracy theories; some Republicans have outright proclaimed that parts of the state are under Shariah law.

And WHO is the Republican claiming parts of Michigan are under Shariah law? Wingnut Sharon Angle of course: Dearborn mayor to Sharron Angle: No 'sharia law' here - Scott Wong - POLITICO.com

And, more from Michigan
:
Walid said that aside from undermining the rights and well-being of Muslims, the bill creates an atmosphere unfriendly to international investment and the immigration of people who can promote Michigan’s economic development.

Supporters have cited 50 appellate cases in 23 states that involve conflicts between sharia law and U.S. state laws, including foreign judgments on divorces and child custody that were allowed to stand. The cases they cite do not include any in Michigan.

Several other groups also have expressed concern, including the Michigan Catholic Conference and Arab social and civil rights organizations in metro Detroit, which has one of the largest populations of Arabs and Muslims in the country.

In May, the Catholic Conference said it strongly opposes the bill because it would likely affect the application of Catholic canon law, the judicial structure governing the church.

The Dearborn Mayor has already been proven a liar. The US Senator who challenged him on youtube proved it quite well.

Please keep it polite. We don't want this thread landing in badlands!

Then quit acting like this some sort of conspiracy and give us a solid cite that shows how Sharia Law has actually been applied. The contention isn't that Sharia and the Constitution are different, but whether it's actually being applied in US courtrooms.

Religious Laws Long Recognized By U.S. Courts

Religious Laws Long Recognized By U.S. Courts : NPR

Marc Stern, a religion law expert at the American Jewish Committee, says that's no different from how religious laws and customs are already applied.

"And just as the Catholic Church didn't take over law when large numbers of Catholics [came] to the U.S., and Jewish law doesn't govern Jewish citizens, Shariah law is not going to govern, except voluntarily, the rights and responsibilities of Muslim citizens of the United States," Stern says.

He says when there's a conflict, U.S. law always wins. For example, when Orthodox Jews have asked judges to enforce their laws on divorce, the courts have refused to do it; they won't be involved in interpreting religion. In the same way, the government won't enforce Kosher food standards because it would violate the separation of church and state.

Link? What was disproved?

CNN helps the Mayor by claiming she had her facts wrong. She didn't. More liberal media covering for Muslims. It is truly amazing when you hear the applause in background from people who know very well she is speaking the truth.

As you have no problem with keeping Sharia law out of the courtrooms you should have no problem with ALAC.

I was just reading about the asshole arrested in Toronto rambling in court today about not recognizing the criminal code because he's only governed by his holy book.

Sun News : 'Criminal Code is not holy book,' accused terrorist tells court

sharia law is happening in Canadian courtrooms also. They are also fighting to stop it from spreading.

Court just ruled today that the Hijab has to come off for a women to testify. 6 fuckin yrs that took to resolve in the courts.

The court system is very slow. You have to get out in front of these people well in advance to stop them. ALAC is well on its way to taking us there. Thank God.

They are trying to bring in sharia law in certain cases and it is going to lead to a bad end. The best defense is a good offense. ALAC provides that.

Oklahoma better get on this. Don't want religious extremists banning gay marriage or anything crazy like that. And those holidays born from pagan traditions, you know, Christmas and Easter.... come on Oklahoma, save Christmas from the Christians following the bible literally!!

The date of December 25th comes from Rome and was a celebration of the Italic god, Saturn, and the rebirth of the sun god. This was done long before the birth of Jesus. It was noted by the pre-Christian Romans and other pagans, that daylight began to decrease after December 22nd, when they assumed that the sun god died.

Centuries ago in Great Britain, woods priests called Druids used evergreens during mysterious winter solstice rituals. The Druids used holly and mistletoe as symbols of eternal life, and place evergreen branches over doors to keep away evil spirits.

Late in the Middle Ages, Germans and Scandinavians placed evergreen trees inside their homes or just outside their doors to show their hope in the forthcoming spring. Our modern Christmas tree evolved from these early traditions.

Santa is the result of a syncretization between Saint Nicholas and elements from pagan Nordic and Christian mythology, and his modern appearance is believed to have originated in 19th century media.

Oklahoma save Santa, Rudolph, and the Trees before it's too late!!

Don't let the Christians with their Bible codes against pagan traditions and worshiping other gods ruin Christmas!!

We need a Constitutional Amendment, protecting Christmas from the Christian bible laws forbidding pagan practices.

Sunni, I put up this thread especially for you as you seem to not understand the differences between Sharia and our constitution. I hope this helps you understand exactly what it is that Oklahoma is keeping out of their courtrooms. No offense but when in America? Do it the American way! America law for american courtrooms. Thanks. - Jeri

Oklahoma is NOT keeping Sharia out of their courtrooms. The Constitution and legal precedent already does that. All the GOP-dominated Oklahoma legislature has done is make you THINK they've done something grand.

The constitution is supposed to limit and prevent the government from doing many things (it does not give all encompassing power then take powers away... it sets strict limits to governmental power to begin with, which our government has continually broken)... our track record with it sucks

Nope...Any attempt to introduce Sharia into the US must be stopped before it starts.
If you are just one bit informed, you must know that Sharia is making inroads in Western Europe.

Many Christian Traditions Predate Christianity. Nothing new, just remade, transformed. Doesn't change the History of how Civilization has viewed Homosexuality. It would seem more productive to find a better means to convince people of your plight than to mock and criticize those you claim to be trying to win over. :)
