Second amendment, should felons be allowed to own guns?

In general I think that once someone has served their time, they should be fully re-enfranchised- both with the vote and their right to own guns.
Except- in my opinion- those who have committed a crime with a gun, or other weapon.

I am curious to see where Republicans go with this- so far generally like in Florida- Republicans are doing what they can to prevent ex-cons from voting. Will they have the same reluctance with firearms?

Then you don't believe that those who have done their time should be re-enfranchised. You pretend to support the right to keep and bear arms but you echo the calls of the anti-gun crowd to punish extra for the gun. Like the gun controllers, you make it about the gun instead of about the crime.

I think I made it pretty clear that it was about doing a crime with a weapon.

Am I okay with reasonable gun restrictions? Yep- I don't have any problem with that. Do I also believe that Americans have a right to own a gun? Yes.
Am I okay with lifetime restrictions for gun use in a crime? Yes I am.

There should be no restrictions to gun ownership in America.. as far as voting you should not vote if you’re not paying taxes, except for some jobs, like military. Woman shouldn’t be allowed to vote because they can’t fight in war like men can, and they vote with emotion not logic, and there should be a test to vote to keep minorities from voting. They don’t like America anyway
'women shouldn't be allowed to vote'

You really do hate the Constitution don't you?

Every time you spout the 2nd Amendment, I am going to remind everyone that you want your Constitutional rights- but you want to deny them to the majority of Americans.
Woman didn’t think woman should vote, many conservative woman believe the same thing. Strip it away! And now

So lets see- if I can cover all of the hateful crap you spout:
You don't think women should be equal citizens.
You don't think minorities should be equal citizens.
And oh yeah- you are the ex-felon.

Jeez, you want to restrict it to all white males voting, but have absolutely no restrictions on gun ownership? What a surprise.

No. Any American citizen over the age of 18 (with very few exceptions) can vote. Limiting that is anti-American.
Well that’s not how it used to be and America was great

Limiting the voices of Americans is not the way to go.

The fact that it used to be that only landowners could vote was not what made America great. You are guilty of a causal fallacy.
Contribute to America pay a poll tax,, if your not working, you can achieve the right to vote if you work hard

First you will have to get enough votes to amend the US Constitution. The 24th amendment specifically outlawed poll taxes.
Easy

Women make up 51% of the population. They could stop it. Add minorities in and it would be a slam-dunk to fail.
woman actually voted against the right to vote lol

How about we make it so that only honorably discharged veterans can vote? If you don't want to serve in the military, some sort of Peace Corp like service. Earn your right to vote.
Tax payers shouldn’t vote?

Women and minorities pay taxes, and you want to take away their vote.
I don’t consider anti Americans citizens , growing up with Hatians and latinos they all said fcuk America, give them a test with some interesting questions if they pass they can vote

I specifically mentioned citizens. Haitians and latinoes who have become citizens have to have a test to vote? But white Americans don't? I've know too many white Americans who are dumb as dirt.

And women? YOu want to take away their vote even though they pay taxes.

An honorable discharge or some sort of approved volunteer work for 3 years. Sounds like a good way to earn your vote.
If you poll 10 hatians if they like America and 9 out of ten says they want to burn it down then yes we have a issue. And that’s what I’m hearing in the community. What should we do if these refugees are saying these things??

Does anyone believe that Jitler actually talks with any Haitians or anyone else with a shade of skin darker than Conan O'Brian?

Luckily for America, no one gives a shit who you think are Americans.

Maybe you should have spent some more time in the slammer.
I live in a democrat run city probably will it’s a police state
And why exactly do you chose to live in what you consider to be a 'police state'?

Fuck the felons and their constitutional rights.

It’s not that hard to get through life without committing a major crime.

If you can’t conduct yourself in a civilized manner, then you deserve nothing.

Because the Constitution says very clearly that the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed there should never be a law against firearm possession. The crime should only be the crime that was committed with the firearm.
The only exception is when you are under the jurisdiction of a probation, parole or if you are confined because of a crime you were found guilty of.

Probation and/or parole are an interesting question. As for incarceration, the right to keep and bear arms need not actually be removed; you just wouldn't have access to them. But the guns wouldn't be removed from your home or your family. When you get out, they're there waiting for you.

So, probation and parole are alternatives to incarceration. If you don't want to accept the conditions of probation or parole, then go to prison... So removing the guns from parolees or those on probation is actually voluntary - they chose that over prison. At the end of probation or parole, they can have their guns back.

The easy response is that if government can "fuck the constitution" and strip rights then what's to prevent them from stripping other rights?

But the bigger related point that people don't understand is that without the Constitution, what power does any one have over you? Without the Constitution there is no such thing as government. So by what authority can anyone call themselves government and do something that they were not empowered to do by the Constitution? That is the essence of tyranny and dictatorship - even if we elect a new dictator every 4 years.

You totally, absolutely, completely, do not understand the nature of government in the United States. I'm going to guess you think you're a conservative - you are not; you're a tyrannical authoritarian. Not a lot of room between you and Putin, you and Xi, you and Nicolas Maduro, you and Kim Jong-un.

Because you think government has the right to do what it wants without regard to constitutional limitations, there's not a lot of room between you and any of these:

Do you think inmates should be allowed to have guns in prison? Do you think that someone on trial for a felony should be allowed to carry a gun in the court room during the trial?

In the United States, rights can be taken away through the process of law, and narrow exceptions are allowed. I see no connection with denying someone guilty of mail fraud who has served his time with denying him the right to own a gun. But I absolutely see a connection to denying someone who has been guilty of a crime associated with a weapon the right to own a gun.

And as far as Constitutionality- the Supreme Court agrees with me- and if you don't agree with the Supreme Court- well thats fine- but their opinion legally matters- and yours is just your opinion.

…[N]othing in our opinion(s) should be taken to cast doubt on longstanding prohibitions on the possession of firearms by felons and the mentally ill, or laws forbidding the carrying of firearms in sensitive places such as schools and government buildings, or laws imposing conditions and qualifications on the commercial sale of arms.”

Fuck the felons and their constitutional rights.

It’s not that hard to get through life without committing a major crime.

If you can’t conduct yourself in a civilized manner, then you deserve nothing.
Were you born raised and schooled in a inner city in America? It’s over oppressive, they destroy education so they can control you, many commit crimes because of the oppression.. it’s nation wide ..
So why did you commit your crimes?

If you have never done something in your life that the government would have you imprisoned or executed for, then odds are, you are a statist pussy, IMO.

Obedience to the Man is not a virtue.

There should be no restrictions to gun ownership in America.. as far as voting you should not vote if you’re not paying taxes, except for some jobs, like military. Woman shouldn’t be allowed to vote because they can’t fight in war like men can, and they vote with emotion not logic, and there should be a test to vote to keep minorities from voting. They don’t like America anyway

I went to inner city schools and grew up.. it sucks, they destroyed many urban areas
I do believe you may have gone to inner city schools.......grew up? No sign of that from this thread.

Just a reminder- you are hear whining about your 'rights' being denied- while you openly advocate denying the Constitutional rights of most Americans.

You really are a Trump supporter- I doubt you have ever voted.
I’m debating wether people who hate America, people that pay no taxes, ppl that can’t serve on the front lines, should have a say who the next president is

No- you are advocating for the denial of the Constitutional rights of Americans based upon their gender, skin color and income.

Here you are whining about how terrible it is that your 2nd Amendment rights are 'trampled upon'- while you are here advocating for the denial of American's rights under the 14th Amendment and the 19th Amendment.
