What not let the state handle it and cut the cost of the middleman out?
Because, historically states have not funded school lunch programs or additional teachers for poor schools.
This is especially true in the South and many parts of the west and midwest (red state territory).
Trump's cuts have already resulted in cuts of 10% or more in public school funding across the United States.
Layoffs, cuts in programs, and the elimination of free and reduced meals are the result.
That's the Trump legacy. Begger the local schools. Pander to a base that hates education. Which is obviously worth more to Trump nation than good schools.
