That is about the only reason teachers join a union. Most unions do not have the right to strike, so any collective bargaining is based on the good graces of the school board doing the negotiating. The union cannot force the school board to do anything in those districts.

Since most teachers don't get in trouble often, the funds are then used for political purposes. At my union in FL, the union could not take any funds from my union dues for political purposes without my express permission. That's the way it should have been everywhere but school boards hold the power and don't use it in that case.

I was certified in 2 states and for the DoD for middle and high school math, social studies and as a high school administrator. You don't have a clue, as per usual.

To get a teacher certification in most states you must also have a core curriculum of education classes as well as methods courses for each subject. That is in addition to your required subject area classes.

If that is so, your state has exceptionally low standards.

In most states, you have to sit for exams, earn a teaching certificate, and have an undergraduate degrees.

In most, you will be expected to earn a masters in ten years, or your accreditation will be lost.
