TAMPA — Preparing for classes to resume next fall, St. Paul Catholic School in St. Petersburg told its families not to expect much difference in its tuition charges.

That changed after Gov. Ron DeSantis signed into law a measure making state-funded private school vouchers of about $8,000 available to all school-age children, regardless of income. That’s the approximate amount Florida will pay next year to educate most students in public schools.

After consulting the Diocese of St. Petersburg, parents and other area Catholic schools, “we decided that we need to take maximum advantage of this dramatically expanded funding source,” Monsignor Robert Gibbons, the St. Paul pastor, said in a YouTube video the school shared publicly.

“Otherwise,” he added, “we would be negligent.”

So instead of paying $6,000 per child, families at the school who are St. Paul parish members will now be charged $10,000 per child. Nonmembers will be charged $12,000 per child, instead of $7,000. Discounts for multiple-student families will be eliminated.

With $8,000 from the state covering most of that cost, families will owe far less than what they had been paying and the school will receive more.

“If we don’t take full advantage of this funding source, we will be leaving money on the table and it will revert back to the state,” Gibbons said in the video, listing teacher pay raises and capital improvement projects among the areas the school would bolster with the added revenue.

This is always what happens when the Govt gets involved with handing out money.

Yes that often happens when a subsidy is introduced. Look at home solar power and how subsidies have impacted the price.

So a public school monopoly is better according to a so-called "libertarian"

What that proves is that private schools do a better job than public schools with HALF THE MONEY!!!

Monopoly busting is never precise or perfect initially. This is a reset and all private schools will now charge the voucher prices, which is still far less than the $15k per year Americans spend per kid on left wing homo CRT indoctrination centers called public schools.

Catholics have always been greedy......Those opulent churches don't pay for themselves you know. ;)
My guess is that the Catholic schools are all woke as well, using proper pronouns, etc.

Or college cost once the Feds got into the loan game
Florida does a pretty good job with their money compared to other states.

And as we all know, these Catholic schools run better than state schools.

Oh well, hard to give a rats ass at this point.

Go cry somewhere else.

DeSants will not be POUTS in 2025. If he wins the nomination Trump will run as an independent just to keep him from winning the White House

Odd how you are the only one to bring up DeSantis yet you accuse me of such things.

Either way, it just does not matter.

6 years from now I will no longer live in this country. I can ride out anyone till then, hell I survived the 4 pieces of shit we have had this century so far

What about disabled kids? ... no way are you educating a Down's Syndrome child with $12,000 ... maybe $36,000 ... but don't worry, parents of disabled children can't afford that ... they have to go to public schools ... I guess Florida hates the handicapped ... you want a hateful man for President? ...
