Scholars Warn Outdated Constitution Has Put Democracy At Risk

The Constitution was always hostile to democracy by design.

This isn’t outdated, democracy is trash.

Repeal the 17th.
I am not surprised that the rich men who wrote and signed the Constitution feared the possibility that if everyone could vote the government would serve everyone's interests, and not the interests of the rich minority.

This is 2 scholars and I can cite scores against that.

The main silliness is the saying that all men are created equal has a changing historically-conditioned answser, Same with unalienable rights. It is a yes, no a X not-X logical choice. Not a thing is historically conditioned.

‘Tyranny of the Minority’ warns Constitution is dangerously outdated

Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt urge institutional reforms, rejection of candidates who violate norms in ‘How Democracies Die’ follow-up

The U.S. Constitution desperately needs updating, say Harvard government professors Steven Levitsky and Daniel Ziblatt.

“We have a very, very old constitution; in fact, the oldest written constitution in the world,” notes Ziblatt, the Eaton Professor of the Science of Government. “It was written in a pre-democratic era. It hasn’t been amended much compared to other democracies. As a result, we have these institutions in place that most other democracies got rid of over the course of the 20th century.”

In their new book “Tyranny of the Minority,” the comparative political scientists argue that these antiquated institutions, including the Electoral College, have protected and enabled an increasingly extremist GOP, which keeps moving farther to the right despite losing the popular vote in all but one of the last eight presidential elections. The scholars also survey governments worldwide for examples of democratizing reforms. And they draw from history in underscoring the dangers of our constitutional stasis.

Levitsky and Ziblatt’s 2018 bestseller, “How Democracies Die,” drew from global case studies to argue that Donald Trump represented a threat to core democratic principles, even flagging the possibility that he would refuse to cede power. Today, in light of the 2020 election — and the 147 Congressional Republicans who voted to overturn the results — the authors say it’s clear the threat is larger than Trump.

I think it's complete bullshit. The minority can't force anything on you. But we have Constitutional protections that prevent you from bullying the minority, and I'm sure you find that disappointing. Sorry about that. Except, not sorry.

Mob rule is not majority rule. Mob rule is what happened January 6, 2021 in an effort to keep Trump as president, even though he lost the majority vote and the election.
Nope....mob rule is what happens when you go by simple majorities. The states become insolvent at that point. That's the point.... The leviathan down in DC wants the state governments gone.

It would lead to the dissolution of state governments...

Two of the biggest Crimson bullshitters
"
More than 80 percent of Harvard faculty respondents characterized their political leanings as “liberal” or “very liberal,” according to The Crimson’s annual survey of the Faculty of Arts and Sciences in April.

A little over 37 percent of faculty respondents identified as “very liberal”— a nearly 8 percent jump from last year. Only 1 percent of respondents stated they are “conservative,” and no respondents identified as “very conservative.”"

Here is some Levitsky bullsht
“Democracies may die at the hands not of generals but of elected leaders—presidents or prime ministers who subvert the very process that brought them to power. Some of these leaders dismantle democracy quickly, as Hitler did in the wake of the 1933 Reichstag fire in Germany. More often, though, democracies erode slowly, in barely visible steps.”
See, you are too stupid and bovine to detect the 'barely visible steps' ...you need the brilliant attentive doesn't-miss-a-thing Levitsky

But even dumber is Daniel Ziblatt

“Institutions become political weapons, wielded forcefully by those who control them against those who do not. This is how elected autocrats subvert democracy—packing and “weaponizing” the courts and other neutral agencies, buying off the media and the private sector (or bullying them into silence), and rewriting the rules of politics to tilt the playing field against opponents. The tragic paradox of the electoral route to authoritarianism is that democracy’s assassins use the very institutions of democracy—gradually, subtly, and even legally—to kill it.”
― Daniel Ziblatt, How Democracies Die: What History Reveals About Our Future

There's that you-need-me-to-see because you are too bovine. Notice too this was the Progressives thinking to eliminate the Founders thought on government

BOTH FRAUDS

Mob rule is not majority rule. Mob rule is what happened January 6, 2021 in an effort to keep Trump as president, even though he lost the majority vote and the election.
Aaah, two stupids having a who-can-be-stupider contest.
Mob rule is any rule ANY AT ALL that does not accept the first principles of the Founding and the mechanisms for resolving disputes.

Lincoln (I think he was 28 when he gave this speech on that topic)"

Lyceum Address

As one of Abraham Lincoln's earliest published

-By such examples, by instances of the perpetrators of such acts going unpunished, the lawless in spirit, are encouraged to become lawless in practice; and having been used to no restraint, but dread of punishment, they thus become, absolutely unrestrained.--Having ever regarded Government as their deadliest bane, they make a jubilee of the suspension of its operations; and pray for nothing so much, as its total annihilation. While, on the other hand, good men, men who love tranquility, who desire to abide by the laws, and enjoy their benefits, who would gladly spill their blood in the defense of their country; seeing their property destroyed; their families insulted, and their lives endangered; their persons injured; and seeing nothing in prospect that forebodes a change for the better; become tired of, and disgusted with, a Government that offers them no protection; and are not much averse to a change in which they imagine they have nothing to lose. Thus, then, by the operation of this mobocractic spirit, which all must admit, is now abroad in the land, the strongest bulwark of any Government, and particularly of those constituted like ours, may effectually be broken down and destroyed--I mean the attachment of the People. Whenever this effect shall be produced among us; whenever the vicious portion of population shall be permitted to gather in bands of hundreds and thousands, and burn churches, ravage and rob provision-stores, throw printing presses into rivers, shoot editors, and hang and burn obnoxious persons at pleasure, and with impunity; depend on it, this Government cannot last. By such things, the feelings of the best citizens will become more or less alienated from it; and thus it will be left without friends, or with too few, and those few too weak, to make their friendship effectual. At such a time and under such circumstances, men of sufficient talent and ambition will not be wanting to seize the opportunity, strike the blow, and overturn that fair fabric, which for the last half century, has been the fondest hope, of the lovers of freedom, throughout the world.

So the stupidest man to ever be President will run around the country (lazily for sure) and exclude TOTALLY his own degenerate coked-up son

unlawfully possessing a gun as an illegal drug user and lying about his drug use on a background check form when he bought a Colt Cobra revolver in 2018

Of course the stupidest-man-to-ever-be-President is also the laziest since

The FBI didn’t finish over 1 million gun background checks in time to stop a sale in 2020 and 2021

As gun sales soared over the past two years, more background checks slipped through holes in the system.

The whole "Tyranny of the Minority" schtick really just boils down to "Sometimes the majority isn't allowed to force its will on the minority!!!!"

Yeah. That's the way it works. The way its supposed to work. Get over it.

More to the point, the Constitution is over EVERYBODY, majority, minority, President, Hunter Biden

I am not surprised that the rich men who wrote and signed the Constitution feared the possibility that if everyone could vote the government would serve everyone's interests, and not the interests of the rich minority.
We know from the extensive recording of the debates that it was the OPPOSITE

They wanted property holders so that the voter had a stake in what they voted for. Your view is what helps the rich minority !!!

Forgiving Harvard students with student loans when
The Harvard University endowment, valued at $53.2 billion as of June 2021, is the largest academic endowment in the world.

But of course you are unaware that many Biden troglodytes in the WH have loans :)
