Sarah Palin resigning as Governor of Alaska

Her resignation makes her look weak and muddle-headed IF she plans to run for President because it looks like she abandoned her responsibilities for craven political ambition. (I don't know about Senate because I don't know the Alaska landscape. Maybe it helps her.) But it makes perfect sense if she says "screw it, I'm outta here." If she resigned because of her family, I'd respect her for that.

Of course, all the conservatives defending her honor will look like morons if she did resign because of scandal, but I'm taking her at her word and assuming that there is nothing untoward in her resignation.

Maybe she isn't into a job where you actually have responsibilities..

I am going under the assumption that this is probably the reason.

Think about it for a bit. A few years ago, she was a nobody (I say that in a good way) running some small town on the edge of the earth. A few years later, she is under intense scrutiny and immense pressure, and not only her but her children are subjects of ridicule. Try and imagine how your mother (or you) would have reacted to this. I have little doubt that her and her husband had many "Why do we need this bullshit?" conversations. Not everyone wants to be President.

She was really a nobody up until just a few months ago. I can understand the pressure and her confusion about why they have to put up with so much bullshit.

I or my mother really wouldn't have reacted the same way, Sarah has this penchant to forge ahead, continue talking and then fix whatever came out wrong later. I feel sorry for her being slapped in the face with the reality of hardball politics but not enough to want to see her in any kind of leadership position.

But that's really up to the Republicans.

IF she were to run without first resigning, she would be subject to the expected partisan attacks for THAT choice.

If she chooses to run after coming to see that she has some serious studying to do first (and realizes this entails travel and the uses of time which are inconsistent with performing her duties as Governor), then being an ethical and honest person, she perhaps chooses to resign first. This exposes her to perfectly expected partisan attacks FOR resigning.

It is perfectly logical to realize she is in a double bind. If she wishes to run, then she is damned either FOR resigning of for failing to resign. Pure political gamesmanship by her opposition.

I'm not persuaded she's the best choice (or even a solid one) for a Presidential run. But if she chooses to run (and I think she's running), then resigning as Governor first is the proper course imho.

I honestly do not think it was a wise decision...it will forever show her as a QUITTER, someone who could not chew gum and walk at the same time, someone who could not multitask, could not become more aware of what is going on in America and her community, while also holding down a job.

Her governorship was up in 2010, this would have given her 2 years before the 2012 election, and her move of quitting now with little over a year left, truly makes no sense to me, unless she really is going to step back and spend time with her family...?

She is very young, 2012 is NOT the only time she will have to run for the presidency...2016, and 2020 would probably still put her younger than George Bush when he became president...she has time to spend with her children now, do some campaign funding for the republican party, "learn about America and Foreign Affairs", and run for the presidency somewhere down the road, like 2020, if this is what she wishes to do, again, imo.

Yeah, but who cares, right? Those attacks wouldn't stick. Most of the recent past Presidents - Bush II, Clinton, Reagan, Carter - have come from the governor's mansion, and none of them resigned to become President. It is not the partisan attacks that count. It is the nonpartisan questions that count.

Palin's problem was that she was inexperienced and ill-prepared to be President. If she runs in 2012, she will still look inexperienced even if she is better "prepared." If she stayed as governor, she would be six years in office. Now it is three years and she is a quitter who has abandoned her responsibilities. Better to be the subject of a partisan attack for not quitting than quitting.

I think it is all irrelevant now. She comes across as a female Dan Quayle who had little hope of becoming President anyways.

(The Canadians here will get this. Palin reminds me of Audrey McLaughlin. The parallels are striking actually.)

THis is why AMERICA you have bad people in government because the GOOD people will not stay in long enough to take the BS both sides sling.

Come on! You pointed out another reason why we have so many bad people in government, because the base of each party blindly supports candidates of their parties! Right now I have only one way to sum up her quitting the governorship, COWARDLY! If you care about the people of your state and think your the best person for the job, then you stick it out to the end. You do the job you were set out to do and that is run the state to the best of your abilities.

Sorry but I see no honor in quitting your job early!

Cowardly maybe...maybe more of a short attention span and an inability to stick to something til the end. I suspect she's suddenly decided she's bored and doesn't want to do the Governor thing anymore and ups and quits....it's a pattern.

I think it's as simple as she was tired of the bullshit vitriol the left dished her every day,, not just her but to her children.. never ever seen such hate.. the left outdid themselves this time.. now it's time to beat her for quitting.. go left hate machine go

 Aside from Letterman, no one dished out any bullshit vitriol or hate. As a matter of fact, she's done nothing but use her children as tools ever since she appeared on the national stage. Even McCain did...remember the picture of him embracing baby daddy on the tarmac? She's either got some problem unknown to us that she's keeping quiet or she has some mental issues, just like Gov. Sanford.

I see that you are following Palin in her footsteps...with the only exception being that in your retirement, you will not be able to wake up each morning and look our your window at Russia.
getting Tina Fey confused with Palin, AGAIN?

Well it's either that kind of abject ignorance for which liberoidals are famous OR it's a delieberate bit of propagandizing dishonesty.

Whether to be studiously ignorant or a determined liar = the fundamental tough choice for all liberals

No she does not come across that way.

She is portrayed that way by the koolaid drinking msm.

I suppose to a segment of the population who believes what she believes, it may seem that way. But to most others, she wasn't ready. Bitching about the media doesn't change that.

Wow! I saw the speech. She rambled on and on that I didn't know wtf she was talking about. It was about as clear as the Couric interview.

Anyway, the poor girl just couldn't take it. Just too much of everything. Well, it's a good thing we found out before 2013 when Putin would be on the phone about something.

I cannot imagine that quitting your job as governor would be the road to the White House.
Stick a fork in her. She is done.

you voted for an asshole who cannot face fox news and bows down in the ME.. cry us a river whydonchya?:lol::lol::lol:

So? A jackass agreeing with a fellow jackass doesn't make the 1st jackass right.

You still aren't making a reasonable point.

You are just engendering the applause of your budz.

You guys are as much fun as a barrel of
