Samsung, LG may move some home-appliance manufacturing from Mexico to US

What conclusion do you draw when you look at the quality of our educational system in the STEM fields compared to other countries that spend far less per student?

Musk wants cheaper foreign workers, period.

Our educational system is pretty bad, particularly in the areas of STEM. Maybe if we would stop worrying about all the fluff, woke stuff, we could catch back up. It will also help to reward students based on merit, instead of identity politics. In the short term, we do likely need to bring in educated professionals from other countries that are far more pragmatic in their approach to education. Keep in mind that the US requires more highly educated people than many other countries because we have the most successful, high tech companies in the world.
I get whiplash with you. In a matter of minutes you went from attacking Dems for saying the country is inferior to attacking Dems because you say the country is inferior.

It's telling that your policy choices are to subsidize low income, low skill domestic jobs but want to flood the market with foreign competition for high skill, high wage jobs.

We have the best university system in the entire world. Hands down. Not even close.

The entire world is trying to get into our schools.

Sorry, I was just reading about all the thousands of high paying union Keystone pipeline jobs that are coming back because Trump is now POTUS, what?
Building a pipeline is not easily automated, unlike assembling parts to make a product. A robot excels when it stands still in one place and only requires enough "brains" to do a task. Make it have to navigate terrain, and it becomes complex, read expensive. Yes, manufacturing can come back to the States, but it won't be done by nearly as many humans as before. There was a time when a guy could graduate high school, work the assembly line for 40 years, buy a house and send his kids to college, then retire. Not anymore.

We’ve been through this before.

Anyone who thinks this is a good deal for America is a dope.

Spin away. Is this like when Democrats say that cutting taxes decreases tax revenue in the long term? They don’t, but economists can spin with the best of them. Corporate tax revenues have gone up since Trump cut them in his first term.

The TCJA took effect in 2018. It takes time to see the full results, but it is not coincidental that tax revenues have gone up significantly since its implementation. Supply side economics work. Who’d of thunk it? Certainly not indoctrinated Democrats.

This year’s robust corporate tax collections calls into question efforts by the administration and congressional Democrats to increase the corporate tax rate and raise other corporate taxes based on claims of relatively low tax collections following the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act (TCJA) in 2017. In fact, corporate tax collections this year are about 25 percent higher than the $297 billion collected in 2017, prior to passage of TCJA. Likewise, as a share of GDP, corporate tax collections are higher this year (1.63 percent) than in 2017 (1.52 percent).

In addition, the rebounding economy has boosted individual income tax collections to an all-time high of $2.052 trillion for the fiscal year. Payroll taxrevenue came in at $1.308 trillion, close to last year’s total, and other receipts came in at $317 billion. In total, federal tax collections reached $4.047 trillion in fiscal year 2021, an all-time high in nominal terms.

Yes, he does. What do high tech American workers have to offer that justifies higher salaries?

I am fortunate to be in a company that only hires American consultants and markets us that way for clients that value citizenship. Not every company does, which is why you see a lot of IT work done in India. I still, however, have to make sure I don't fall behind the curve so I can justify my higher cost.

Sad, really sad. You are pimping for the richest man in the world, bringing in low wage workers because you believe American's are making too much money.

And people wonder why I can not support Republicans despite supporting many of the things they pretend to support.

Disney workers did NOT fall behind the curve. There were just lower paid workers Disney shipped in to replace them.

Bogus on its face. I make more money because I'm worth more money, and I'm saying that, in a global economy, you're competing for jobs with workers from around the world and if you don't have something that justifies a higher salary, you won't get it. My company, for example, doesn't even consider hiring a consultant with less than 15-20 years of experience. That works in my favor.

Are they doing high-tech jobs that require constant continuing education, with responsibilities that can shut down a company for days or weeks if done incorrectly? And, ultimately, did Disney just decide that the lower cost workers were worth any problems they bring?

I didn’t say our country was inferior. I said our educational system is inferior to many, thanks to Democrats and their woke agenda. Pretty simple really. Keep liberal politics out of our schools and focus on education. Teach kids how to think, not what to think.

Flood the market? I didn’t say that. I am just saying that we need to subsidize many highly technical jobs due to a lack of qualified US candidates and sheer number of these types of jobs we require. I don’t have a problem adding a wage surcharge for H1B employees that levels the playing field for American workers in these high tech areas, which would ensure that companies are hiring the best and the brightest, not just the cheapest. I am sure Elon and others would be against that idea, but I don’t care.

Blah, buy Speed Queen top-loading analog commercial washers and dryers.....Buy once, cry once. ;)

Screw off. You are worth more money but your neighbors aren't. Screw off.

Our educational system is a part of our country. And you’re wrong. We have the best universities in the world by a mile.

Flooding the market is exactly what the oligarchs want to do. The job market for highly qualified CS grads is terrible. High tech companies are replacing departments with foreign workers. You’re listening to the needs of the elites and not to the normal Americans.

Meanwhile you demand the normal Americans heavily subsidize low skill American jobs. Why can’t those low skill Americans get the skills to improve their prospects?

15th post
And if the manufacturers are thinking that way, they don't even start the process. If they start the process, obviously they think the tariffs are going to stick. We'll see if their analysts make a better call than you do.
They are just throwing shit out there... It is not going to happen...

Mainly because their competitors are not doing it... So Sony can let Samsung and LG tkae the higher costs and they expliot them with a better product for less money...

The US consumer willb ethe one that pays..

Also, you are going to have to put tarrifs on every country in the world... How do you think that is going to go...

When you try it against EU, they won't target Blue State industries... They will be going for Red State...
Canada might even be persuaded to ship there Oil to ships to be processed in China... This is a win-win for the EU, as China would use Canadian Oil (and not Russias) and Trump can suck eggs

And they are flooded with foreign students because their grade school educational system is far superior to ours, again, thanks to Democrats.

I work in a high tech industry. I am well aware of the hiring practices of high tech companies. As I have said, I have no problem equalizing pay. It isn’t fair for a person living in the US to compete with a person living in Asia or even Mexico. The problem is that many of these jobs are remote only and that raises more issues in terms of pay and cost of living. Should a US citizen living in San Francisco get paid more than a person living in Mississippi for remote work? What prevents a person living in San Francisco from moving after being hired, along with their higher pay check? I’m not sure of the best way to resolve these discrepancies.

Don't look now but remote work is on the way out......I bet the traffic from the lemmings that commute into NOtVA/DC has doubled over the last week as all those NOtVA assholes that moved into my AO are enjoying their 60 mile one way commute.

Good, maybe local housing prices/assessments will go down in my AO as they choose to stay closer to work.

You’re such a partisan hack. If it’s all the Dems fault, you’d think the red states would all outperform blue states. Want to tell us how great the educational system of Mississippi is? What about Oklahoma? Routinely ranked among the highest states is Massachusetts. How did Dems screw that state up?

Right wingers are so anti-education these days, it’s absurd.

Equalizing pay isn’t what tariffs are for. Tariffs are there to subsidize low wage jobs. You may generate some more domestic jobs, but we are going to pay through the nose for them. This will have an economic drag if done broadly enough, which Trump seems to understand given he’s backing off his stupid campaign promises.
