KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Finland’s leaders Thursday came out in favor of applying to join NATO, and Sweden could do the same within days, in a historic realignment on the continent 2 1/2 months after Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine sent a shiver of fear through Moscow’s neighbors.

The Kremlin reacted by warning it will be forced to take retaliatory “military-technical” steps.

Finland’s president and prime minister announced that the Nordic country should apply right away for membership in NATO, the military defense pact founded in part to counter the Soviet Union.

“You (Russia) caused this. Look in the mirror,” Finnish President Sauli Niinisto said this week.

Putin made a gross miscalculation when he invaded Ukraine! The old Soviet Union had previously invaded Finland, so Finland doesn't want to go through that again with Putin. Putin screwed himself.

The Ukraine has always been a separate country, region, culture, language, etc.
That is NOT what this is all about.
This is about eastern Ukraine ONLY.
And the eastern Ukraine is not ethnic Ukrainian but is ethnic Russian instead, because the Crimea, Donetsk, etc. WERE part of Russian until Khrushchev, (a Ukrainian), illegally gave these Russian provinces to the Ukraine.

This war is NOT at all about Russian aggression.
The Ukraine was bought out by US bribes in 2014, and has been illegally stealing Russian oil, murdering ethnic Russians, violating treaties, and trying to put NATO nukes on Russia's border.
Those are all illegal acts of war by Kyiv that can not be ignored by anyone, no matter who is in charge of Russia.

There is another thing to consider with this. Sweden and Finland have interest in joining NATO. But maybe there is more to this. Over the last few years and recently there has been more interest in the Arctic Ocean area for oil and minerals. Sweden and Finland would have protection in their coastal areas of territorial waters. So, NATO would foot most of the bill for the protection. Or should I say the United States?
