KYIV, Ukraine (AP) — Finland’s leaders Thursday came out in favor of applying to join NATO, and Sweden could do the same within days, in a historic realignment on the continent 2 1/2 months after Russian President Vladimir Putin’s invasion of Ukraine sent a shiver of fear through Moscow’s neighbors.

The Kremlin reacted by warning it will be forced to take retaliatory “military-technical” steps.

Finland’s president and prime minister announced that the Nordic country should apply right away for membership in NATO, the military defense pact founded in part to counter the Soviet Union.

“You (Russia) caused this. Look in the mirror,” Finnish President Sauli Niinisto said this week.

Putin made a gross miscalculation when he invaded Ukraine! The old Soviet Union had previously invaded Finland, so Finland doesn't want to go through that again with Putin. Putin screwed himself.

Well of course. Look at how many dumbasses are spouting the "It used to be part of Russia, gotta understand that" argument on Ukraine.

Ukraine hasn't been a part of Russia since 1917.

Finland was last a part of Russia in 1917.

Putin drives countries to NATO, then claims them moving to NATO is aggression against Russia.

People actually believe that shit. Including most Russians.

The unintended consequences of making other nations fear you. So then they try to initiate what you went to war about. This is moving closer to irresolvable

Newsmax announced this evening that an intercepted phone call by a Russian oligarch revealed that Putin has blood cancer. So he doesn't have long to live.
Newsmax used to be a wonderfully reliable news source. Too bad in the last year or so they've become what they are today, most a source for baseless conspiracy nut garbage.

True, but I meant go all in for Russia
If they do they risk being destroyed. That's why they pulled their own forces back from the borders and closed their bases to Russian operations.

They are in a very tenuous position and don't want to pay the price for Putin's failures and miscalculations.

Think so? If Belarus rolls 1000 tanks on Kyiv and just obliterates it? Who would oppose them?
