Putin obsesses over possessing Ukraine not unlike the British monarchy did over possessing America 250 years ago.

At the end of that war, Great Britain came to an understanding with the American rebels, due in great part to American resolve and French assistance, that America was in fact a separate nation and no longer a part of the British empire. This realization by the British shows great maturity on their part, especially given the times in which they lived when monarchs ruled supreme and it has rewarded them in the twentieth century and today with one of the greatest alliances in history that has in turn benefitted the modern world.

Unfortunately, this maturity of perspective Russia sadly seems to lack as it clings to old world romantic ideas of dominance, intolerance, and backward thinking. Throughout Russian history the Russian people have been the victims of their own refusal to move forward with modern ideas and have seen attempts to do so as threats to their xenophobic way of life.

Its classic Russian pigheadedness that with their arsenal of nuclear weapons threatens not only to set themselves back to the stone age but this time the rest of the world with them.

Ukraine has been it's own independent country since 1991. You would think Russia would have realized this by now, same with a lot of posters who think that Ukraine is fighting for independence from Russia.

Wanna know why I think Putin did this now? Because Trump had badly screwed up our relationship with NATO and it's member nations, and Putin saw NATO as week with a good time for him to try to take over Ukraine so Russia would have a year round seaport for it's military.
