Russia issues list of demands it says must be met to lower tensions in Europe

And? You think that high ranked Pentagon officials read various political forums and get impressed by chit-chats of Russian users here or there?
I know for sure, that there are services (not only in Pentagon) that monitor public sentiment (in most important states), including issues of war and peace.

Of course they do. But I think there are more advanced methods of it than reading posts of a couple of guys on an American political forum.

on 08.08.2008 Georgian troops under US direct encouragement invaded South Ossetia, killing Russian peacekeepers.

in 2014 the US ogranized a coup turning a friendly neighbour Ukraine into a Nazi Russophobic state

but actually whatever a reason, it's enough that we concider such a small nuance as US military presence at our borders dangerous. :)

this ultimatum is an invitation to go to strictly reciptocal situation.

I think it is meant to be rejected by the US, since it doesn't recognize others' rights

so, I am quite curious now what Putin is going to do, but I expect it to be quite unpleasant for the US, like Poseidon nuclear drones 50 miles away fron New York..

which will whipe America out of existence for 300 miles into the continent with nuclear tsunami, if nesessary. with following radioactive fall out which will make another 1000 miles uninhabitable for next 100 000 years :)
If Putin is that stupid, our nuclear retaliation will turn Russia into radioactive glass. Sure, we could lose a lot of democratic strongholds, but our missiles are safe at sea, or in the middle of the USA and the democrats are the ones most friendly to the Russians.

So, Russians think differently. They think they're self important and they, like the US, think they have the right to fuck up everyone else.

They criticize the US for doing what they also do.
Russia has always been a third world shithole. It used to have a first world military, now it barely has a second world one. Putin has delusions of grandeur and thinks he can bluff his way into being a world power again. That's gone, Russia has no economy, its people are worse off than under the Communists and Putin is a corrupt, kleptocratic warlord trying to create an external threat to secure his tottering government.

the Donbass militia only could defeat the Bandera Ukraine in 2014... Do you think anyone in Ukraine will seriously fight against the Russian army?
The Ukrainians war prepared to fight alongside Hitler to get rid of Stalin in 1941, so I'd say yes. The Ukrainians were the slaves to the Russians for long enough to know that they don't want to be slaves again. That's why they want to join NATO which is a DEFENSIVE alliance against Russian aggression. No one wants to be under Russian domination again and all those little countries that just regained their freedom will fight to keep it.

Actually, some Russian experts believe, that they can win a nuclear war against the USA in some specific circumstances:
1. Russia declared an ultimatum as an answer on some extremely provocative American behavior.
2. Russia prepare to the first counter-force strike.
3. The USA consider Russian preparations as bluff and continue the extremely provocative behavior.
4. Russia evacuate cities and prepare ABD.
5. Western wishful-thinking politicians ignore it.
6. Russia attack and destroy at least 90% of American nuclear arsenal.
7. Russian post-attack Coercion to Peace to prevent US retaliation strike.
8. ....
9. PROFIT!!!!
The Russians have always deluded themselves that they can win a nuclear war. They are stupid enough to see some demarcation between the use to tactical nukes and strategic nukes. Tot eh US, a nuke is a nuke is a nuke.

That you have idiotic ideas about Russia and Ukraine. this is your personal problem, which concerns only you and your psychiatrist. The trouble is. that US government corridors are filled with such idiots...

Nope, all kleptocrats stealing from Russia's economy to feather their own nests just like their equivalents did in the Soviet era.

But right now, with their new, and American outdated nukes they really have a good chance to do it. It's not that they really want to gamble with the war, but they believe that the gambling with the further NATO militarisation of Ukraine and Eastern Europe - is much more risky.

I'm assuming you've not been to Russia then.

Yes, Russia has financial problems, because of Putin in part, but he's a smart guy who gets the most out of his power.

Anyone above who know so much are full of beans - we can smell the gas over the Internet. Anyone above who has taken and passed a post graduate degree in International Relations step forward.

the United States has two options for responding to the ultimatum of Russia - whether it wants to accept and leave the Russian zone in peace on honorable terms, or not to accept and still leave with the shame of defeat and loss of everything acquired in the 20th century, with the loss of Great Power status, the loss of every their vassal in Europe and not only. I would say that such a scenario of aggravation with a firefight looks like even preferable for Russia, given its military technical superiority right now.

Russia was told that most of its demands would be rejected. So, Putin needs to do something or shut up eventually.

Russia issues list of demands it says must be met to lower tensions in Europe

Contentious security guarantees Moscow is seeking include a ban on Ukraine from entering Nato
17 Dec 2021 ~~ By Andrew Roth
Russia has put forward a highly contentious list of security guarantees it says it wants the west to agree to in order to lower tensions in Europe and defuse the crisis over Ukraine, including many elements that have already been ruled out.
The demands include a ban on Ukraine entering Nato and a limit to the deployment of troops and weapons to Nato’s eastern flank, in effect returning Nato forces to where they were stationed in 1997, before an eastward expansion.
The eight-point draft treaty was released by Russia’s foreign ministry as its forces massed within striking distance of Ukraine’s borders. Moscow said ignoring its interests would lead to a “military response” similar to the Cuban missile crisis of 1962.
Vladimir Putin has demanded that the west provide Russia “legal guarantees” of its security. But the Kremlin’s aggressive proposals are likely to be rejected in western capitals as an attempt to formalise a new Russian sphere of influence over eastern Europe.
The demands, spelled out by Moscow in full for the first time, were handed over to the US this week. They include a demand that Nato remove any troops or weapons deployed to countries that entered the alliance after 1997, which would include much of eastern Europe, including Poland, the former Soviet countries of Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, and the Balkan countries.

Russia has massed about 100,000 troops on its side of the border. Joe Biden has warned Putin of “sanctions like he’s never seen” should his troops attack Ukraine. On Thursday, European Union leaders urged Moscow to halt its military buildup and return to talks led by France and Germany.

Commentary:
Joey Xi Bai Dung's great moves since January 2021 have place America and the World in a precarious position. Not only has he driven America into Inflation, given us the Afghanistan debacle, allowed Russia to finish the Nord Stream 2 Pipeline. Now he has given Putin the impetus to threaten Europe with war.
"Moscow said ignoring its interest would lead to a "military response" similar to the Cuban Missile Crisis" of 1962."
It seems that Joey Xi Bai Dung's warning fell on Putin's deaf ears. Putin knows that Joey is weak and unable to follow through with his threat of sanctions and NATO is a farce.
Note that if Putin wins the game of threats with Joey, Europe and NATO, China will take Taiwan without a shot.
Time for Democrats to leave D.C. and let real Americans lead this country....
Russia is not in any position to list anything.

Putin was working hand-in-hand with the Mafia when he was stationed in Sankt Peterburg. So he acts like a Mafia boss when dealing with other countries. There is no reason for countries to back out of NATO other than for him to plow into even more countries.

NATO should be more clear though, if Putin carries out an invasion beyond Donbas and Crimea, then Ukraine should join NATO.

They even made a fake movie blaming Ukraine for attacking Russia. It's not even original, Germany did that over 90 years ago, blaming Poland for attacking Germany. No wonder people call him "Putler".
