Responsible SNAP Budget

I think food stamps should be given out to all that are hungry. A form of food basic income.

If you're having a hard time
If you can't get a job
If you're in need

That is what jesus would have wanted.

Hunger is a great incentive to work. I've always said that the MAXIMUM welfare benefit including SNAP, section eight housing and everything else should be a dollar less than the net minimum wage salary for 160 hours of work.
Yup. The way it’s set up now, there is a disincentive to work.

If only they had chosen not to be born poor amirite!
I was born dirt poor, and I never took a dime of welfare in my life. I have worked since the fourth grade. I had a newspaper stand before I was old enough to have a newspaper route. Being born poor doesn't mean you have to stay poor.

From you link: "In such cases, criminals steal funds loaded onto EBT cards that SNAP recipients rely on to buy food by surreptitiously installing card skimmers, and cloning point of sale terminals enabling them to steal publicly funded benefits. Recent investigations show that international criminal organizations are heavily involved and benefiting from SNAP fraud."

That isn't showing a wide ranging problem of SNAP recipients buying lobster or paying for Caribbean cruises with EBT cards. It's criminals using close proximity scanners to duplicate the data on the card.

And we are. The question is: how much? Food stamps are so high that welfare recipients can afford better cuts of meat and seafood that the self-supporting working class has to pass by.

So why work?

The numbers aren't consistent -- the source I read said that there was $5B in the contingency fund and 42M recipients. Simple math--5B/42M=$119 and change. How is that half? Someone, on one side or the other, is lying.
I think it is on an earnings scale....many many many families would not be poor enough to receive the full amount Lisa posted. The average family household receives about $340 per month in total from what an A/I search says....

Nobody ever said SNAP people pay for Carnival cruise tickets with SNAP. The point is they have so much money left over after OTHER people pay for all their food that they can afford a cruise in the first place.

58% of SNAP recipients are children or elderly. Maybe they can go to work building trump's ballroom to keep the cost from going over $300M.

The money is irrelevant

It might keep the little hood rats too busy to knife people.

I’m saying the maximum is too high. A young woman with four little kids should not be getting $1100 a month for food, provided by other people. The fathers should all be paying child support. But they don’t have to because they know if their Baby Mamas have no income, other people will support their kids.

Why? Because they're black?

Only about 25% of SNAP recipients are black.

Another one who pretends not to understand per capita.

Blacks are twice as likely to be on SNAP. And it is very likely that a good number of these uncivilized people in the video above are on food stamps.

Jesus believed in PERSONAL charity, not the Romans providing it. If you want to give half your salary to people unwilling to work, go ahead with my blessings.

This thread is aimed at claiming that the yellow bar at the bottom of this chart is getting too much money.

We really should limit what SNAP can be redeemed for: inexpensive beef and chicken, canned goods, bread, milk, eggs, cheese.

You want crab legs? Get a job!

See, now this I can agree with.

About half are children. You have no point. You just drone on while you collect the social security I fund. Youre a deadbeat.

Per capitaI being Latin for "by heads" or "for each head".

OK, let's put it in per capita instead of as a percent. 75 out of 100 SNAP recipients are not black.

Same point applies. You’re saying that 25 out of 100 SNAP recipients are black? That’s horrible! They’re only 13% of the population! Thus, they are twice as likely to be on the program than whites.

This is not surprising considering the 72% out of wedlock birthrate.

(Not sure where to put this, but mods can move it.)

Welfare beneficiaries will get half their monthly SNAP benefit for November. Let’s see how, with responsible choices, they can stretch that out. For purposes of this exercise, let’s say it’s a single mother with two little kids, who normally gets $750 a month. So…..how can she stretch the $375 for this month?

1) Four packages of chicken (16 main meals) at $35
2) Two pounds of ground beef (8 mains) @ $15
3) Box of spaghetti and sauce (4 mains) @ $5
4) 3 bags of frozen veggies @ $10
5j 10 cans of fruit @ $15

All dinners: $80 total

1) 2 Dozen eggs @ $8
2) Two boxes cereal @ $5
3) Juice carton @$4 (mix with water to stretch it out)
4) 3 gallon of milks (not sure, let’s say $10)
5) Package of cheese @ $3
6) Two loafs of bread $8

All breakfasts: $40

Kids get free lunches, so for Mom only (and weekends for kids)

1) Five tuna cans @ $10
2) Another loaf of bread @ $4
3) mayo @ $3
4) packages of sliced Turkey and bologna @ $10
5) apples, bananas, whatever, let’s say another $15

Lunches: $42

All basic meals: $162

Add in another $40 for pudding snacks, jello, bags of chips, etc., etc.

Still comes in around $200 for a basic “charity” diet for November.

2 dozen eggs and 2 loaves of bread and cereal, etc., lasts a family of one adult and two kids breakfasts for a month?

That's around 1/4 an egg per day per person. That diet's a tad heavy on the protein, wouldn't you say?
