Countries that actually experienced feudalism have progressive taxation for a reason.
They understand that if you don't tax the rich then the nature of capital in a lower economic growth environment (which is where the whole world is headed) is that the person who has capital gets richer, while the people without capital lose more and more of what they do own.
What that means is Republicans, who want to cut all the taxes on the capitalists, want to return the US to a state where only the elite 1% own everything and everyone else lives by their good graces.
