FOXNews.com - Republicans Uncertain Over Who Should Challenge Obama in 2012

FOXNews.com

A new poll shows Republican voters are deeply divided over who they want to carry the party mantle in the 2012 presidential race. Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin leads the pack, a couple other names are close behind and a whopping 42 percent of Republicans are listed as undecided.

Republicans may be seeing the start of a political surge, but GOP voters still don't know who they want to lead it.

A new poll shows Republican voters are deeply divided over who they want to carry the party mantle in the 2012 presidential race. Former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin leads the pack, a couple other names are close behind and a whopping 42 percent of Republicans are listed as undecided.

The numbers suggest the 2012 presidential primary is any Republicans' game. Republicans are expecting to pick up a lot of seats in the congressional midterm elections, buoyed by success in the Virginia and New Jersey gubernatorial elections last year, and the Massachusetts Senate election last month. But while President Obama's approval ratings have dropped significantly since he took office, it's unclear who would be up to the task of challenging him.

The survey was conducted by Research 2000, a non-partisan firm that polls for the liberal Web site Daily Kos. It surveyed 2,003 Republicans between Jan. 20 and Jan. 31.

The poll showed Palin with 16 percent support, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney with 11 percent and former Vice President Dick Cheney with 10 percent.

Cheney, though, has rejected talk of a presidential run despite efforts to "draft" him into launching a bid.

The Research 2000 poll had a margin of error of 2.2 percent. It also showed, among Republicans, 53 percent believe Palin is more qualified to be president than Obama. Just 14 percent think otherwise.

First we get the complaint that the campaigns are too long (which they are), then the next moment the notion that because one party or the other hasn't an anointed "front runner" 2 3/4 friggin' years out, is some kind of evidence of disarray?

Whatever!

Relax folks. I have it on good authority that my personal barber, Otis, is going to run for President in 2012. I figure he will be a great President. While he cuts your hair, he can solve all of the American woes. World peace? No problem.

Lots to see and lots that can and will happen before it is time to chose from candidates... of course it is uncertain who should run

this has to be the dumbest thread of the day

The DUMBEST part of this so called dumb thread is that the majority of "Republicans" want Sarah Palin to be the Presidential nominee. Honestly, what does that say about the cumulative IQ of your "base"?

If what you say is true it says a whole lot.

How long before 2012 will they get started? I thought it was two years prior....

Michael Steele
Bachmann or Palin should run in my opinion. Oh and cop killer Huck.

Who gives a shit what some poll somewhere shows or if you hear some REP touting Palin... anyone who touts some candidate almost 3 years ahead of time is being moronic... as stated, still much to see and experience before we even have a list of viable candidates for a primary, let alone who will face Obama

republicans may be dumb, but even they know 16% isn't a majority.

It's not important who the Republican candidate maybe, the issue is, what will s/he promise and to whom?
The belief that any one person can fix the perniciousness which has infected our nations politics, that being money and the lust for the tappings of power, is absurd, for many (most) who long for the presidency it's not about goverence, it's all about ambition. It's not about us or our posterity, it's all about them.
True leadership is something we haven't seen, maybe in our lifetime and maybe we never will. A leader has a vision, not a hidden agenda, and the ability to communicate that vision to the people, so that even a 24 hours 'news' cycle will be unable to cloud his or her vision.
I recall an essay question from a long ago history class: Does man make history, or is the man made by history?
I don't recall how I answered it, but today, I'd have to say a leader makes history, but there are few leaders.

it's not dave's fault you're an asshat, wry.

The GOP is slowly but surely learning that they have to move to the center if they want to get anywhere so it's unlikely, if they continue to smarten up, that they'll nominate anyone the rightwingers are happy with. Probably some new version of John McCain.

Ron Paul was winning all the debates in the polls.

Until he got booted from the debates for not being popular.

????????????????
