Republicans - Specifically Speaker Mike Johnson - are Doing a Poor Job of Explaining What Democrats Want in Their CR

Very few Americans care about this.

However, millions of Americans are terrified about their Obamacare subsidies expiring on December 31st....including 57% of MAGA voters who want the Obamacare subsidies to continue. Their health care costs are about to go up 50% - 100% on Jan 1, 2026.

And that is why this is a no-win situation for Trump and the Republican Party. They are completely fucked.

But these aren't really "obamacare subsidies" they are the covid enhanced tax credits.

If ACA was so good, why did it require more tax subsidies to get people to enroll in it? Sounds like ACA wasnt so affordable to begin with.

Democrats and Republicans define "Illegal allien" differently, and they and their media are depicting those differing definitions as Republicans lying.

Dems want to restore taxfunded health benefits to illegals who got assylum, or parole, or Temporary Protective Status when they were being granted en masse by the Autopen Administration.

In the minds of Democrats - and their media - those people are NOT illegal aliens. To Speaker Johnson, they are.

That difference in definitions allows the media to accuse him of lying and cite the federal law prohibiting "illegal aliens" from getting federal benefits.

Johnson needs to stop saying "illegal alien," and start saying "aliens granted mass assylum, often after having illegally entered the U.S." That would sell.

Here at his press conference today he says at 6:20:

"Why are we saying they want to return, restore taxpayer funded benefits to illegal aliens? Because that's what they did."

Then he directs Americans to page 57 of the Democrat proposal, which is on his speaker.gov website.

Few voters are going to go to look at that document, compare it to the BBB and see what the Dems want to repeal from it.

I'll do the homework. This is Schumer's proposed CR:

Most Americans do not want to see their tax dollars used to pay for the healthcare of such aliens, even if the previous administrataion granted them "legal status."

Could you provide metrics on the percentage of undocumented illegals getting federal subsidies? :dunno:

Don't forget the bailouts to the HC companies who were losing money under Obama.

How would tax credits impact monthly payments like has been shown?

I believe the difference in payments is caused by the upcoming decrease in subsidies that were increased during COVID to offset other expenditures. Is that what you understand and if so do you have a link?

Like buying an EV with a $7500 tax credit. What happens to the buyer if the tax credit goes away?

Anything that has to survive with government subsidies can't stand on its own.

These people don't pay enough in taxes to take advantage of any tax credits. I am just looking of the reference that it is even a tax credit.

The $7500 is a rebate, not a tax credit that actually goes to the manufacturer as part of the cost of the vehicle. it is in effect, a subsidy, not a tax credit.

It says:
"The amount paid to the insurer is the difference between your premium cap and the cost of the plan."

I still do not see how this is a tax credit for the individual because it is paid to the insurer to lower premiums.
It's set up for low income people. To qualify you can't make more than 400% of the federal poverty level... FPL.

If there is no more payment to the insurer, wo is going to make up the difference?

Beyond that, it was a temporary program to begin with during COVID.

Republicans have become complacent.

Your nonsense does not relate to Trump's attempt to deprive millions of Americans of healthcare coverage that is being resisted by Democrats and Marjorie Taylor Greene, and is supported by most Americans.
The "millions of Americans deprived" is a lie. Americans are not deprived, when reasonable conditions are set for government charity.
Nearly 80% of Americans want Congress to extend ACA Tax Credits
Another lie.

Americans overwhelming elected Trump and the Republicans to do exactly what they are doing - making government work again.

Could you provide metrics on the percentage of undocumented illegals getting federal subsidies? :dunno:
What does the percentage matter, if any of them are getting them?

If your claim is that zero people who crossed the border illegally are getting Medicaid and ACA, then you should have no problem with them being banned from getting it, correct?

If people who crossed the border illegally are banned from federal welfare of any kind, then why object to that being reiterated, as it was in the BBB?

It sounds as if you are chugging the orange kool aid.

You have concocted no data that supports your dogma.

Americans oppose Trump's slashing healthcare coverage.

That's not an argument, that is childish.

It isn't just the loss of the COVID era tax credits causing ACA policy premiums to rise.
Other factors involved include increases in underlying health care costs driven by factors like higher hospital and drug prices, medical labor shortages, and increased demand for medical services, including specialty drugs. Plus, insurers are proposing the largest rate increases in years.

The bottom line is Repubs, when having a choice of helping to make health insurance more affordable for middle/low income households, instead prioritized tax breaks favoring the rich and corporations.
