The late honorable John Conyers, D-Michigan, first introduced a billto congress in 1989, H.R.3745 - Commission to Study Reparation Proposals for African Americans Act. Conyers said this about hisproposed legislation: “My bill does four things: It acknowledges thefundamental injustice and inhumanity of slavery; It establishes a commissionto study slavery, its subsequent racial and economic discrimination againstfreed slaves; It studies the impact of those forces on today’s living AfricanAmericans; and the commission would then make recommendations toCongress on appropriate remedies to redress the harm inflicted on living African Americans.”

Conyers introduced this bill in every Congress until he left the bodyin 2017. For 28 years, American lawmakers refused to pass this legislation. Instead, the American right dishonestly distorted the issue. At every level, the American government owes reparations to not only descendants of slaves, but due to continuing acts of racism, all black citizens of this country. We hear the excuses of how we weren’t slaves and whites today didn’t own slaves. Well, the argument or demand has nothing to do with what or who individual whites owned. The demand is for reparations from the government(s) that made the laws and policies.

Many who argue against reparations start and end their oppositionbased only on slavery. That is a mistake.

I say baloney. Millions of black millionaires and billionaires deserve reparations? How about those who maybe aren't millionaires yet but are getting there? How about the vast majority who have never experienced slavery or segregation of any kind and/or or have never been disadvantaged in any way and live very well which would be most of the black Americans that I know?

The opportunities for black people to prosper, even under segregation almost 60 years ago and also now is hugely greater for black Americans than those remaining in Africa. As horrible and unjustifiable and indefensible as slavery and segregation and persecution of black people was in our increasingly distant history, black people, even those living below the poverty line, almost certainly benefitted and now benefit from those truly evil people dragging their ancestors over here.

All you have to do to understand that is compare the standard of living of black Americans in all economic classes to those living on Africa's gold coast where most of the black slaves were captured (by other black people) and sold to the slavers.

Until the race baiters stop telling black people how disadvantaged and miserable and cheated they are because of the evil white people, and instead encourage them to make good choices and take advantage of the opportunities open to them, too many black people will buy into that and not see how privileged they are to live in a country where anybody can prosper beyond his/her wildest dreams.

Reparations would be the absolutely worst thing you could do to black people now and would foster racist attitudes well into the next century. Maybe we do owe reparations to those descended from those black and white crusaders who lost their reputations, fortunes, and very lives to give black people full citizenship and equal opportunity in this country.

It really rich to read whites tellng us what's good for us. Whites have recieved direct economic assistance from the government on several occasions. Blacks aren't telling each other jack squat, only the most delusional white racist believes this along with dumb black sellouts. And your last sentence is pure retardardation.

What makes right wing whites like you actually post and believe this crazy stuff?

Why don’t you go to the bank and get a loan on this windfall? Get the cash now clown, cuz it ain’t never gonna happen.

Damn you are embarrassing
It will happen. That's what you're scared of.

We have many rich black Americans in this country and they became rich without your fairy tales.
Blacks are 13 percent of the population, have 8 percent of the millionaires, 10 blacks are billionaires, and we have 2.7 percent of the wealth. Whites have 15 times more wealth and so your post is deviod of fact. The video would provide you information but you want to stay stuck repeating the crap Limbaugh pimped you into believing.

Common sense and because I really care about people.

Nothing you posted reflected common sense. Your post was pure right wing extremist lunacy. For you to actually say that blacks are telling other blacks is just straight up dumb ass. And what about blacks living today that face the modern style of racism that comes from people like you.

Go learn history because:

The Homestead Acts gave away 246 million acres of land.To qualify for Homestead land, a person had to be a citizen of the United States, and blacks were not given citizenship until 1866. Research shows that 99.73 percent of that land went to whites, includingwhite immigrants.19 1.5 million white families were given free land, the equivalent of a minimum of $500,000 per family. Today, 93 million whites still benefit from the Homestead Act, this is about forty percentof the current white population in America.
More than fifty billion dollars (based on its value in 1930) was spenton The New Deal and Servicemen’s Readjustment Act. That amount is the equivalent to just over 1 trillion dollars today. Both programs are credited with providing a significant boost to wealth accumulation in America. Both policies excluded vast numbers of blacks

The Social Security Act of 1935 created the Social Security program, state unemployment insurance, and assistance to single women withchildren. Today, most Americans love the program. However, when theact was signed, the law excluded occupations mainly done by blacks. When President Roosevelt signed the law, approximately two-thirds of the blacks in America were ineligible.

Between 1934 and 1968, the FHA implemented and put into practicea policy that still negatively impacts communities today. The FHA Underwriting Manual set the guidelines real estate agents used to assesshome values in American neighborhoods. This manual promoted racistreal estate practices. It was done by defending racially restrictive covenants and segregated communities.

All of these things impact us today. Jim Crow racism is illegal and instead we see this:

“Laissez-Faire Racism involves persistent negative stereotyping of African Americans, atendency to blame blacks themselves for the black-white gap in socioeconomic standing, and resistance to meaningful policy efforts to ameliorate America’s racist social conditions and institutions.”

Your posts on this topic are prime examples of Laissez -Faire Racism as are the majority of posts from the right wing members of this forum.

Since you are unable to argue a point without being insulting or going ad hominem I'll just wish you a pleasant evening and let it go at that.
