NCAA president says there are āless than 10ā transgender athletes in college sports
NCAA President Charlie Baker told a Senate panel there are fewer than 10 transgender athletes he is aware of who currently compete in college sports, pouring cold water on an issue Republicans have said is a nationwide problem and one that is increasingly fraught territory for Democrats.
āHow many athletes are there in the U.S. in NCAA schools?ā Sen. Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) asked Baker during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Tuesday on federal regulations around sports gambling.
āFive hundred and ten thousand,ā said Baker, a former Republican governor of Massachusetts who has served since 2023 as president of the NCAA, which governs intercollegiate athletics at more than 1,000 colleges and universities across the country.
āHow many transgender athletes are you aware of?ā Durbin asked.
āLess than 10,ā Baker said. He did not say whether that number includes transgender men.
Transgender inclusion in womenās sports has become a political lightning rod, dividing the nation and playing an increasingly central role in political campaigns.

Private insurers covered 65% of the country as of 2023, per the Census Bureau.

The study, published in JAMA Pediatrics on Monday, looked at private insurance claims representing over 5 million patients in the U.S. ages 8 to 17.

Maybe, just maybe, just as Sharia law was never really a threat to America, issues surrounding trans people have been blown out of proportion by Repubs for political expediency. Your thoughts?
