1. Yes. That happens almost weekly. It certainly happens every time I go to the airport, a restaurant or bar where I find myself in the company of strangers.
2. Acquaintanceships more so than friendships, but yes. That's has been the case throughout my life. It doesn't appear to have stopped happening.
3. I did exactly that, although the school also had students who held views different from mine and my kids. I think the variety views and backgrounds was a good thing and a thing to welcome not eschew.
4. Yes. That's what I do when I'm driving/walking through my neighborhood and see someone out front whom I don't know. Mostly I nod or simply say "hi" or "good morning/afternoon," and keep moving. When I'm visible from the street, passers by do the same. (When I'm with a black friend, I observe them nodding whatnot to far more strangers than I ever would. I'm far from anti-social, but I'm not that friendly.)
5. I don't know that those things have ceased to exist, though I'm not a church-goer.
6. They still do, at least judging by the foreigners I know well enough to have an opinion about whether they have done or not.

A better question is why do conservatives believe life is static and doesn't change? Fewer people identify as Christians. You don't make friends anymore? You don't wave to strangers and they don't wave to you? I constantly have people that are very courteous on the road and insist that I go first at a stop sign, even when I'm insisting they go first. And we all laugh and wave the thankyou wave. People hold doors for me and I hold doors for others. Be the world you want to create, that is all you can do.

I will say that the advent of doing everything online or on a phone (text) rather than in person I believe is eroding the sociality of people. I'm at work in the bathroom practicing throne work and people in other stalls are having full-throated conversations as toilets are being flushed around them. I find it bizarre, it seems rather disrespectful to who you are talking to. Less and less human contact I don't think is a good thing. Retail stores across the board are seeing a steady drop off in business. Millenials prefer to stay home.

Turn that shit off and go bowling or shoot some pool. I think it a great loss that current generations don't know the ins and outs and joys and foibles of drive in movies.

There's no cultural and or communication barriers at all here in Southern California...the "diversity" is awesome. I much prefer to be surrounded by people who share nothing in common with me...including my language. I love seeing the Mexican flags fly in front yards while the resident waits by the mailbox for the check I send them on the 1st and 15th. I love standing in line at the market and feeling like a foreigner in my native country. I love watching the t.v. monitors at the gas stations which broadcast in a language I can't understand. I love sending my kids to private schools at $2,400 per month to keep them from being surrounded by silver tooth anchors with no moral compass or sense of family values.

Well I don't know what you are putting out with the map BUT district by district you get only a small area in a few states that are blue. If LA, NY. CHI, Detroit, and a few more cities died off there would be almost NO blue at all just a few dead cities like the others I posted that are full of dead worthless people. Which led to the creation of giant multi national corporations, that has completely corrupted our political system.

1. I'm going to infer from (1) your remarks about your uncle-in-law" (2) your stated marital status, and (3) your stated educational achievement that you are a young adult (not over 35).
2. Wealth/income is not a proxy for or indicator of intellect. High intellect does not assure one of great wealth or earning an inordinately or even "normally" high income. Indeed, I don't know that any of the smartest people on Earth are extraordinarily rich, yet most of them do alright financially. It's also not apparent to me that the richest people around are among the smartest people on earth, yet most are smarter than average. (I recognize that "doing alright" and being "smarter than average" are phrases that describe a range not a point.) My own brother would tell you in NY minute that he's of only average intellect -- and he rightly isn't chagrined about it; it is what it is -- yet he's well into the "one-percent" range of wealth, and that rightly doesn't serve as a source of pride for him as that too is what it is. He has a career doing what he likes and the job pays well.

I'm very hard pressed to believe that any "much older than [you], ...highly credentialed M.D. and specialist with his own practice and every cert under the sun" would deign in earnest to demonstrate they are smarter than anyone for they have nothing to gain by doing so. You claim your uncle-in-law has done so; thus I'll take your word for it. I'll, however, note that in that regard, your uncle-in-law is unlike any accomplished physicians I've encountered. There're, however, exceptions to the norm I know. He certainly can be one.
4. None of the very wealthy or very smart (or both) people I know engage on any level in the "mine's bigger than yours" game. They do the "you don't have any" or "I wish I had some/more" thing, but they don't do "whose d*ck is bigger." The people in my world who "have it," aren't interested in who, relative to them, has more or less of it because it's clear to all of us that we all have far more than enough of "it" to live the lives we want to live.

Well, I remember those days. I wish people under 40 did. Illegal aliens were no issue, People worked their entire lives for one company, that company took care of them and their families. Nobody made a lot of money, but they manged to survive on the few dollars they got. Couldn't mention the word "pregnant". Modesty was a thing. A new house cost less than 2000 bucks. The GI bill. And now? All these well intended liberal politicians give the green light to gay marriage, give illegal aliens sanctuary ,and other wise tromp over all american values. USA was excellent especially for my parents generation . Dad survived ww2 in Europe , didn't have to go to Korea because he and Mom had 3 kids at the time , 5 kids total . I was born in 1949 . Dad got a job and he worked his job and advanced as time went by . Mom never worked outside the house but as i remember things we were rich. Got a first new car in 1960 , a big Dodge station wagon and after that i remember what i would call upward mobility . Anyway , 'ike' Eisenhower was President in the mid 50s and he did OPERATION ******* . He cleaned up the USA of illegals so that when i was looking for a good job as a young adult in about 1968 good paying jobs were easy to find . I went from making a 1.25 an hour to making 3.83 an hour in just a matter of hours plus i had benefits for the wife and kids . ------------- something else to consider is that illegals didn't send their kids to schools to muck up education for young Americans . The way i remember things is that my parents generation had it made for their entire lifetimes .
