Ready for the 1 Dollar Trump Coin?

I give you the Kennedy Half

I'm curious as to when the two year waiting period for putting a deceased President on U.S. currency went into effect. I've been unable to find a definitive answer, but I suspect it may have been after 1964...

Nope, it's been the law since 1866. Apparently an exception was made for Kennedy.

Actually the US dollar has more value now than it did under the Obama administration. It's currently worth 97.66 cents, as opposed to 71.8 cents in July of 2008.

The dollar reached it's highest point of $1.53 in February 1985, when Reagan was President.

Those stats and government claims are fun, but the last time one dollar was convertible to one oz of silver, the true standard, was 1964.
Going further into it, when one ounce of gold was convertible to the true standard value of twenty dollars was in 1933. Even on those dates federal reserve printing had long devalued the purchasing power of paper money.

The Carly Simon song comes to mind....You're so vain, I bet you think this song is about you....

Is he planning on dying?

He has to be dead, two years before being minted on a coin.

His face on the back, with his political slogan of fight fight fight serves no purpose but political.

Where did you get that idea? Liz 2 was on Canada coinage for years while she was alive.

I take it you're not going to collect one :auiqs.jpg:

I use plastic and prefer $5 bills for tip jars.
Oh, and of course in the matter of coin collecting, my go to is the 2¢ piece.

A bit of trivia: the 1864 2¢ piece was the first U.S. coin to feature "In God We Trust"

Render unto Ceaser that which is Ceasar's. An obvious commemorative coin well deserved.:

It's unclear if the draft images will go into production.'s unclear if the draft images will go into production.

A portrait of President Donald Trump may be featured on a commemorative $1 coin issued by the United States Mint in honor of America’s 250th birthday in 2026, according to first drafts of the images confirmed by the US Treasury.

“No fake news here,” US Treasurer Brandon Beach post on X in response to images of the coin on X. “These first drafts honoring America’s 250th Birthday and @POTUS are real. Looking forward to sharing more soon, once the obstructionist shutdown of the United States government is over.”

The draft images show Trump’s side profile on the front with “Liberty” at the top, “In God we Trust” on the bottom and the dates 1776 and 2026. On the reverse is the famous image of Trump raising his fist after the Bulter, Pennsylvania, assassination attempt, with the words “FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT” at the top and an American flag billowing behind his head.

.

If they mint it in silver, it will be more like a $50 coin.

Apropos. I'd buy a bunch!

Assuming they finalize the design and go through with it, the bullion price will be $50+. Look for them to sell in the $100 range.
The spot price at the close Friday was $48.57.

So it's a bullion coin, not legal tender.

I will keep an eye out at my coin dealer. Trump stuff sells out really fast there!

Thanks.

Trump is the US and its people. Having the image of a living President on a coin isn't new. Calvin Coolidge was depicted on the Sesquicentennial of American Independence half-dollar in 1926.

Should we be complaining that our money has the faces of president, from Washington, Lincoln, Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Kennedy etc,. Why not Trump?

It’s pathetic.
