"Rational" Republicans Threaten Third-Party if Cheney's Replaced.

Perhaps we can rename the Grand Old Party to Trump’s New and Improved Grand Old Party. (TNIGOP)

Let’s be honest here. The democrats’ plan is to throw the book at Trump and indict and prosecute him on dozens and dozens of charges for everything from grand larceny to jaywalking. If at all possible they will put Trump in prison for the rest of his life. That will show any future candidate for President that in the end the Swamp always wins.

Of course Hillary, Joe and his bagman, Hunter, Comey, Clapper, Brennan, Peter Strozk, Lisa Page will all walk away scot-free because the rule of law simply does not apply to them.

it will be interesting to see what happens in the near future. It would be nice if both the establishment Republican Party and the establishment Democratic Party were replaced by something new and different with candidates willing to improve this nation not ruin it. If we can’t run Trump perhaps we can get Governor DeSantis from the Free State of Florida to run.

Everyone demonizes the donor class, the corporatists and other political elites, while canonizing the average voter.

As Trump has proven, a very large percent of 'average voters' are flaming idiots.

And as politicians have proven for years, the vast majority of 'average voters' will NEVER elect an honest politician.

The 'average voter' can not handle the truth - so politicians HAVE TO LIE - or they'll never get elected.
Yep. This is why calls for more democracy seem kind of dumb. We've got too much as it is.
I blame lousy T.V. programming. News channels are the most entertaining thing on, so a whole lot of people who have no real interest in politics are getting excited about politics and voting.

Dumbasses should stick with the Three Stooges.

I agree that the media shares a lot of the blame. They've wasted what little credibility they had on fear-mongering.

Great let Romney and Cheney form their own party
"For decades, Republicans have fancied themselves the party of the rule of law.

"After all, that’s what a republic is by definition, a nation of laws, as opposed to a democracy, a nation of majority rule.

"But it’s also the case that in the last few years, the Republicans have become the party of sheer lawless power, from Bush v. Gore to the denial of Barack Obama’s 2016 Supreme Court pick to their blind loyalty to this mobster president.

"Trump, inevitably, will force them to choose. And that is the exact fault line on which they may split.

"One part of me says this is bad for the country; the other part says pass the popcorn."

The Whigs Collapsed Over Slavery. Could the GOP Over Trump?

So, you link has 100 former govt people who signed a letter. Not a single person in power.

Pretty sure the Republican Party will weather this "storm".
About as well as the Whigs weathered slavery

Everything I've learned about Trump over the last few years leads me to believe that he would enjoy an intraparty war. He'd sit back and watch it with relish just like he did on Jan 6 when the Trump mob attacked the US Capitol.
After her promised the mob he would be there with them.
Maybe he meant be there in spirit?
If the Republican Party can't admit it's been conned, they should go the way of the Whigs.

The trump people who control the republican party now have continued their cancel culture rampage and voted her out of leadership.
Conservatives have always used cancel culture against anyone opposing white supremacy:

The Great Hypocrisy of Right-Wingers Claiming ‘Cancel Culture’

"There was also Paul Robeson, who had his passport revoked by the US State Department for his political beliefs and was forced to spend more than a decade living abroad.

"Racism and red-scare hysteria also canceled the acting career of Canada Lee, who was blacklisted from movies and died broke in 1952 at the age of 45.

"The song 'Mississippi Goddam' got Nina Simone banned from the radio and much of the American South, and the Federal Bureau of Narcotics essentially hounded Billie Holiday to death for the sin of stubbornly refusing to stop performing the anti-lyching song 'Strange Fruit.'"

Is that a breakdown of where the 100 members of this party live?
Not exactly.
It's a breakdown of who decides US presidential election

America’s Winner-Take-All System Gives Attention to the Few at the Expense of the Many - FairVote

"Yet again, America’s presidential election has boiled down to the votes of a handful of battleground states. FairVote’s Presidential Candidate Events Tracker, which analyzes the campaign events of both major-party presidential and vice-presidential nominees since their nominating conventions, has found that almost three-quarters of all 2020 campaign events took place in just six swing states, while 37 states have received no campaign attention at all. This should be no surprise as two-thirds of 2016 campaign events took place in just six states."

Dear georgephillip,

Please kindly refrain from posting links to FairVote, or endorsing ranked choice voting. They're doing really good work and the reforms they propose actually have a shot at improving the political landscape in the US.

In particular the liberal claim that trump incited a riot to overthrow the government
That is exactly what he did.

Over a period of months Trump laid the foundation for his Big Lie by repeatedly claiming any defeat would be due to voter fraud on the part of Democrats when the primary perfidy in the 2020 election was Republican voter suppression.

Capitol riots: Did Trump's words at rally incite violence?

"In a 70-minute address, Mr Trump exhorted them to march on Congress where politicians had met to certify Democrat Joe Biden's win. The attack began moments after he took the applause.

"Those words have now played a central part in his second impeachment, which lawmakers voted in favour of last month.

"So what did he say? Here are five key quotes, followed by some legal analysis from Professor Garrett Epps of the University of Baltimore..."

Stacking the deck: How the GOP works to suppress minority voting

nonsense

Trump wanted a giant demonstration to pressure the spineless republicans but in no way did he want a breach of Ft Pelosi
