Ranked Choice Voting in Alaska

I guess you never heard of computers being hacked?
1. that has nothing to do with how long it would take to tabulate results unless the "hack" was just to delay it.

2. There's no reason any computer that deals with an election would ever need to be connected to the internet or even have the capability to do so. If it's not connected and cant be connected it's exceedingly difficult to hack them. And virtually impossible to hack enough of them to make a difference.

3. We are already using computers for voting; how does this voting system increase the probability of them being "hacked"?

Fear of hacking is why the NY Congressional race held last year took over 2 months to tabulate the winner using ranked-choice voting.

Because it was a very tight race and required a recount, hand counting of ballots was required.

You are just not familiar with the process so you are unaware of the problems inherent to it.

Hand counting something like an election in todays world is fucking stupid. You know what counts better than any human with less errors? A computer. People being stupid and thinking it’s more accurate for a human than a computer to count anything is the problem.

Change the law!

I can change vote totals in a computer with a few keystrokes. Creating thousands of fake ballots is a little more complicated.

Where do they put those hand tabulated results? Oh a computer you say? Huh. It’s just dumb. There no way around that fact.

Voters in the state had approved a ballot initiative in 2020 in favor of using ranked-choice voting in their general elections. The initiative also created a nonpartisan primary which sends the top four vote-getters, regardless of political affiliation, to the general election. (The fourth candidate in June's special primary, Al Gross, withdrew shortly thereafter.)

Good news that more states are starting to move to this. It might be the one thing that can break the stranglehold of the duopoly.

Actually, it reinforces the duopoly, but yiy are clueless so go along like a good little slave.

Actually, he is an idiot on almost every level. This system allowed murkowski to survive.

Had it been a normal voting methid she would be toast.
I had the impression ranked choice was now being used for the first time in Alaska. No?

Yes, the person that got the most votes would have been toast!

A human is writing it, thus you cannot remove all human bias
Well, what you do is use apolitical criteria for a political purpose. ZIP Codes.

For ease of math, lets say there are 5 representatives from a state. The state has 100 zip codes and 3M people. Divide the number of zip codes by the number of representatives. You end up with 20 zip codes per House seat--each representative will have 20 zip codes assigned to her or him.

Put the zip codes onto a ping pong ball and then simply have them put into 20 different hoppers based on population . The 1st district gets assigned the first ball drawn from each hopper. So they get one zip code with a lot of people from the first hopper, another zip code with fewer from the 2nd, a third zip code with fewer still, a fourth zip code with fewer and so on. The 2nd district gets the 2nd ball from each hopper...etc....

The districts are no longer contiguous and there could be anyone in the district so there are no more safe seats designed by gerrymandering.

Interesting idea. The downfall is they no longer have an actual district to represent since the people they represent are spread out all over the state and have different wants and desires.

And how is that different from what it is now?

If only we could get congressional districts determined by geographical compactness and computer-generated to eliminate human bias.

If we could only get voter databases computer checked to make sure the registered voters are: alive, real people, legally able to vote, only cast one ballot
