Gruden worked for the Raiders. As such, he represents the Raiders and, like it or not, his conduct reflects on the Raiders. Raiders ownership decided that keeping Gruden employed was simply too much of a liability and acted as it deemed appropriate.

And Gruden's life is hardly "destroyed". He's got a net worh just north of $30 million. I'm pretty sure he's gonna' be okay...
