Proposal To Break California Into 3 States Could Make November Ballot

Anything would be an improvement over this liberal shithole that it now is.

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA) — Voters could get a chance to decide whether California should be split into three states this November.

Venture capitalist Tim Draper, who authored an initiative to break up the Golden State, says it has received enough signatures to qualify for the November ballot. Draper says the initiative, which he calls the “CAL 3” has more than 600,000 signatures and will be submitted to election officials next week.

It should be broken into 3 or more districts for the Electoral college. But making them states would give them a total of 6 senators and that is way too much power.

California is underrepresented in the Senate right now

Right now, based on population, they should have 12
there should be over 4000 seats to rep the whole population

Wouldn’t that give the Democrats at least three, maybe four more seats in the Senate? Good luck getting that passed by Congress.

You do realize that there are two Senators per state, so it could never be three, right?

Under normal circumstances you'd be right.

But we're talking about California being split and there is every possibility that one or two of the resulting three states would elect a half-wit so the possible change in the Senate cold be +4.0, +3.5 (that's 3/-1/2, libbie snowflakes) or perhaps +3.0. Given the nature of the LA/'Frisco area, sure to elect two half-wits, the others might avoid the half-wit potential but there's no guarantee. So that gives us one split state at 1.0, another at 1.5, another at 2 for a total of 4.5 Senators. Hard to imagine but not impossible that you might see 1.0, 1.5, 1.5 - total 3.5....do the rest of the math yourself to see the other not-so-unbelievable possibilities.

LA and SF would be in separate states.

Does anyone think the Dems in Cali would ever agree, or Congress for that matter, particularly if two of the three states were Dem.
It will never happen. Three states, huh? Fine. I wanna be in the room when the folks representing the three factions sit down to divide up the hundreds of billions of dollars of unfunded CA state pensions and whatnot. In fact, it might be worth securing the rights to that powwow and sell it on pay per view or something. Put MMA and those phony wrestling idiots to shame with this fight.

Split would make it to be 52 states.

How would 52 stars be presented on the flag?

This is a good piece on the topic...

California: Model for National Divorce, Not Democrat Domination | National Review

Demographics undoubtedly affect politics, and in California the demographics are wildly different than they are in most of the country — with no realistic prospect that the rest of the country will grow to mirror California, not for generations (if ever). Interestingly, Texas’s demographics mirror California’s perhaps more than any other state. It’s 43 percent white, 38 percent Hispanic, 12 percent black, and 5 percent Asian — and it’s still the cornerstone of national GOP power.

Second, it turns out that California politics and policies are repellent to millions of Californians. Between 2007 and 2016 roughly 6 million California residents left the state. Only 5 million people moved to California from other American states. And where did a plurality of former Californians go?

Texas.

When you break down the migration numbers even further, the results are fascinating. While California loses residents to most states, it enjoys net positive migration mainly from other blue states, most notably New York, Illinois, and New Jersey. This means that California’s population churn — immigration combined with domestic migration — pushes it farther down the progressive path.

Third, while Teixeira and Leyden point to California as a model for combatting inequality, it’s one of the most unequal states in the nation. The most prosperous parts of the state are not only undeniably beautiful, they’re also populated by a creative and entrepreneurial class that gives each place a distinctive intellectual energy. If you’re rich enough, parts of California are very, very nice places to live. If you’re not, housing prices will keep you out more effectively than the guards at any gated community.

A "three state solution" is politically interesting in that it would likely add a Red state and a Blue state as did the admission of Alaska and Hawaii. Long term demographic trends and voting patterns would be of paramount importance at the national level. There is also a good argument against one state being so dominant in Congress. (What about Texas?)

However, the internal problems of splitting up tax revenue, debt obligations and water rights would make Brexit a comparative piece of cake.

I love how leftists were all for breaking up AZ but are now mocking breaking up CA.

It's awesome to see how opinion swings so quickly
Who proposed breaking up Arizona?

We need to break up Texas
Could Baja Arizona be 51st state in US?

leftist in the state didn't like that they couldn't dictate policy
Any nut job can propose a new state just for the publicity
not many people go into details and get support

Do NOT split up LA and SF.

Not from what I saw proposed. They would be at the opposite ends of the state containing both of them.

Better idea. Merge Rhode Island with Connecticut and slap West Virginia and Virginia back together!
