Los Angeles has seen the largest population decline in history.

Californians are fleeing their state and moving to states that aren't such a mess.

This is the biggest accomplishment of Gavin Newsome. Helping Uhaul make millions.

Californians are moving to other states like Texas, Florida, Arizona, Tennessee, and spreading their voting habits throughout the rest of the country.

California’s population loss has been a source of endless speculation in recent years. And all these Californians leaving the state are scattered nationwide, from New York to Texas. Where are Californians moving right now?

New moveBuddha data shows precisely where Californians are interested in moving to, right now

We crunched the numbers from moveBuddha data collected in the past 6 months, August 1, 2025 through January 31, 2026. This data includes searches nationwide by individuals located in California who are either planning to move or hire a moving company for their move. This data is much fresher than official Census data and gives hints of future moving patterns.

So where are Californians looking to move to right now?

  • Texas is (again) the top destination for departing Californians, with 14.1% of the state's outbound interest (2,986 searches).
  • Florida is the #2 destination for Californians with 7.16% of interest.
  • Washington, New York, and Arizona round out the top five destinations.
  • State feeling the weight of new Californians the most? By per capita impact, it's Nevada with 30 inbound searches for every 100k residents.
  • What's changed? Interest in Texas is up, while Florida's is down, and Washington state takes the #3 spot from New York.
  • While The Golden State ranked dead last in moving interest in 2025, it has actually seen interest rise 14 percentage points since 2024 according to moveBuddha's end of the year report.

PEOPLE MOVE for many reasons.
not being able to afford to stay where you have lived, is one. America is not trying to support the many. we are getting less able to support our self and get ahead. BIG money is buying up everything. & all politicians seem to be working for them self or party, not us regulars.

I was in Chandler, AZ in 2018. Everyday I drove North on Arizona AVE seeing a U-Haul place with a big sign. CA one-way (over a trailer?) $49.99.

My friend moved to California. I asked her how she likes it. Isn't it really expensive? She said her husband landed his dream job at Tesla. Silicon Valley is insanely expensive! That being said, we absolutely love it here.

Harry Dresden only losers flee California.

Or maybe I too would leave Michigan if after I made my fortune here I could move to another state where things are a lot cheaper to live. But I have to remind myself where I made my fortune. Michigan. And wherever I move won't be nearly as nice as Michigan.

Like everything else in life, you get what you pay for.

That depends on what part of Ingelwood

Inglewood, CA, has a slightly higher overall crime rate (34.52 per 1,000 residents) than the national average (33.37), but significantly lower violent crime rates (6.4) than the national average (13.32). While some areas, such as Morningside Park, report crime rates 14% higher than the California average, other parts, particularly in the north and west, are considered safer.
The median household income in Inglewood, California, is approximately $71,984 to $75,281, according to recent 2025/2026 data estimates. This represents the median income per household, while the per capita income in the area is around $32,342
The per capita income in Inglewood, California, was $32,342 in 2022, which is considered a lower-middle income for California but middle-income relative to the rest of the US. The median household income for the city is approximately $71,984 to $75,281.

Per capita income (PCI) measures the average income earned per person in a specific area (city, country, etc.) within a year. It is calculated by dividing an area's total income or Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by its total population. This metric is used to evaluate the standard of living, compare wealth between regions, and track economic prosperity.

so what bobo...its still a shitty place to live....why do you think the Lakers moved out of there?...

California is gonna go after your money if you are wealthy enough. Sooner or later they'll pass a wealth tax, and whatever the threshold is will gradually be lowered until they get to you. So many beautiful places, but they sure know how to eff up a state.

Bill Maher made an interesting point this past week. Republicans really F over millionaires like him. It's billionaires who Republicans protect. No wonder so many millionaires are angry at how much they pay in taxes. They're just like the rest of us. Getting F'ed by the billionaires.

The Minneapolis Lakers moved to Los Angeles in April 1960 due to severely declining attendance, financial losses, and a lack of a suitable home arena following superstar George Mikan's retirement. Owner Bob Short relocated the franchise to exploit the, at the time, untapped, lucrative West Coast market.
The Lakers moved from the Forum in Inglewood to downtown Los Angeles (Staples Center, now Crypto.com Arena) in 1999 to modernize their arena, improve revenue through luxury suites, and capitalize on the revitalized downtown entertainment district. The team sought a state-of-the-art facility to sustain their long-term financial success, leaving the aging Forum

it was also a safer place you didnt include that....i have been to many concerts at the forum.....it wasnt in a great area anymore....

The Kia Forum in Inglewood has a mixed reputation for safety and is considered to be in a higher-crime, less tourist-friendly area compared to other parts of Los Angeles. While police presence is high during events, visitors are advised to stay aware of their surroundings, avoid walking alone at night, and use ride-sharing services directly to the venue.

I didn't feel safe when I stayed across the street from the Staple Center. 1111 South Figueroa Street, since 1999

Gary Payton played for the Los Angeles Lakers during the 2003–2004 NBA season

Because Gary came into my hotel bar for a drink after the game. That's how I know what year it happened. We spanked yall that year.
