Military coup's only happen in banana republics where the 'rule of law' doesn't exist. For example, let's take a country where a presidential candidate who is under investigation by that countrys' leading law enforcement agency ends up getting elected El Presidente. Than, that elected president ends up pardoning themself after being convicted of a high crime or misdeameanor. Seems like such a country would be ripe for a military coup.
