How long will President Joe Biden's handlers keep shielding him from White House news conferences? Just how long will the "Hide Biden" strategy last?
No modern president has gone this far into a term without holding a real news conference, according to The Associated Press. And of course, being The Associated Press, this is described as "discipline," not avoidance. It is described by a sympathetic press ally as a White House "strategy."
But it is avoidance. And the fact is, he should be having news conferences. And by news conferences, I don't mean questions he can ignore as he's led off the stage by first lady Jill Biden, holding his elbow to direct him if he turns the wrong way.
And I don't mean Biden reading from a teleprompter. He even has difficulty with that lately.
I mean a real honest-to-God news conference where Biden stands and answers hard questions about his policies:

He's scheduled to give a speech tomorrow night (and it'll be interesting to see how he fares in that), but there's been exactly zero opportunity for the press to pose questions in an unrehearsed, spontaneous setting. You have to go all the way back to Calvin Coolidge before you find another President who avoided the press so vigorously.

I think the reason is obvious, and anyone who has an IQ which surpasses their shoe size knows the reason, as well. The man is deteriorating, and rapidly. His handlers understand how such an environment would be an epic and unqualified disaster for the administration, so they're doing everything they can think of to limit his availability to the press, which right now consists primarily of shotgunned questions in informal settings.

Tranparency of government requires as many as possible. As an example Trump was as transparent and spoke to the press nearly everytime they asked him gotcha questions....not softballs like Joey Xi gets....
