President Trump's latest executive order to bring back Asylums

Not true as rule only in cases of chronic cognitive decline not mental illness which is often treatable
Not at all, but mental illness as well. As long as they are unable to care for themselves, particularly financially, they can be the subject of a conservatorship or guardianship. Mental illness qualifies.

You dont understand the law or treatment for the chronic mentally ill. We dont have to declare them incompetent. Thats separate issue.

This is what I voted for. Make padded rooms great again!

That is the one thing Reagan messed-up on. A lot cheaper in the long run to have state hospitals than wasting money on free drugs, and other feel good money wasting programs that just end-up being grift streams for the dems.

For decades, libs have blamed the nation’s mental illness issues on Reagan’s closing of mental institutions. Now those same people are going to reeee about reopening them because it’s a Trump initiative.

BTW....Said institutions should be given the same legal protections that Big Pharma was given with the clot shots.

JFK shut down the mental institutions. Reagan signed a bi partisan bill that gave block grants to the states to build mental health centers that were never built. Democrats passed laws stopping long term mandated treatment and exploit the homeless keeping them on the street

I understand it quite well. At least in California. I have been through it with personal experience.

Not surprised but guardianship isnt part of the problem. Its the inability to mandate long term treatment they cant refuse and democrats refusing to build mental institutions and out patient treatment centers. They like poop on the streets

It started during Reagan. The ACLU sued claiming people were being institutionalized without an opportunity to challenge the order. Apparently some people were institutionalizeing grandma and grandpa to take their assets.

In order to get guardianship over someone now takes a court hearing. A doctor has to certify them incompetent, appear in court to testify and be cross examined. Doctors can charge thousands of dollars for this. My dad's doctor wanted $10,000 to sign the certificate and give one day of testimony. I could do the guardianship court filings myself but I couldn't get the ten thou to pay him. It ended quite tragically.

False its started during JFK
The Community Mental Health Act of 1963 (CMHA) (also known as the Community Mental Health Centers Construction Act, Mental Retardation Facilities and Construction Act, Public Law 88-164, or the Mental Retardation and Community Mental Health Centers Construction Act of 1963) was an act to provide federal funding for community mental health centers and research facilities in the United States. This legislation was passed as part of John F. Kennedy's New Frontier.[1] It led to considerable deinstitutionalization.

Reagan gave block grants to the states who never built the treatment centers.

As a therapist who has started the commitment process many times guardianship has nothing to do with an involuntary commitment. As a mandatory reporter I have to start the process when I see a credible threat to harm self or others. I notify the police ChildLine human services etc. The patient is examined and held for up to 5-7 days. Then discharged or held longer. Its reviewed by a mental health judge periodically. It fails because all a patient has to do is tell the judge he feels better. Hes out and will be back in a few months

Guardianship is civil process that gives another person durable power of attorney

In California the hold is 72 hours. I had my dad held on a 72 hour hold more than a dozen times with no (laughable) mandatory reporter doing anything, A patient does not have to feel better to get released. The magic words are don't touch me.

I was with a friend driving (thank God I was driving ) when he just slipped into a catatonic state. No reason. One minute talking, the next brain dead. He was held on a 72 hour hold that stretched into six months. Was there mandatory reporting? No.
