It was the highest reading since August of 2011, as prices accelerated for food and non-alcoholic beverages (9.45 percent vs 8.95 percent in January), transportation (9.61 percent vs 7.82 percent), and restaurant and hotels (7.03 percent vs 6.88 percent). On the other hand, inflation eased for housing and utilities (4.86 percent vs 6.68 percent) and furnishing and household maintenance (2.39 percent vs 2.99 percent). On a monthly basis, consumer prices advanced 0.61 percent, consistent with the 0.61 increase in the previous month.​

Annual inflation rate in the US accelerated to 7.9% in February of 2022, the highest since January of 1982, matching market expectations. Energy remained the biggest contributor (25.6% vs 27% in January), with gasoline prices surging 38% (40% in January). Inflation accelerated for shelter (4.7% vs 4.4%); food (7.9% vs 7%, the largest since July of 1981), namely food at home (8.6% vs 7.4%); new vehicles (12.4% vs 12.2%); and used cars and trucks (41.2% vs 40.5%).
