Pete Buttigieg is expected to forgo a run for Michigan’s open US Senate seat in 2026, according to two people familiar with the former transportation secretary’s plans, setting up a potential presidential bid in 2028.

Buttigieg was calling fellow Michigan Democrats on Thursday morning to tell them of his decision. He is expected to publicly announce his decision later Thursday.

Following the retirement announcement by Democratic Sen. Gary Peters in late January, an adviser to Buttigieg told CNN he was taking a “serious look” at a Senate campaign.

I'm just going to state the facts from the elephant in the room. While Petey could win the democrat nomination, Americans as a whole are not ready to elect a gay guy to be president. Whether people want to hear it or not, that's just a fact. Besides, he's one of those wokies. If democrats want to return to the scene, they are going to have to elect a white guy. Their best shot is actually Senator Fetterman from Pennsylvania, who could actually appeal to both the left and the right and he's from a very important swing state. Petey couldn't even win his own state of Indiana.
