A major blow to Putin and his ability to finance his invasion since his reserve billions are no longer available.

And, there is nothing his U.S. agent Trump can do to alleviate that situation. Putin obviously had no idea what he was getting into when he chose to take on President Biden. Bigly!!!

Good move. Hopefully it works in bringing Russia to their senses and stopping the invasion. But its much like the Olympic Committee. Condemnations and the like are worthless with dictators.

USD is not required to trade oil.

There are a million other options.

The more the US pulls this shift the faster the decoupling will happen...thus all of the wars.

Then why has the US bumped oil imports from Russia from 500k barrels per day to 625k barrels per day since about 2 weeks ago.....That's paid in dollars.....You are being played.
It is CNN after all. Of course it's a lie.

"This is the largest attack in Europe since World War II. But by invading a sovereign country in a move reminiscent of the 1939 invasion of Czechoslovakia, Putin has united most of the world against him. And Ukraine is still standing."
-----------------------------------------------------

  • Richard Engel: "You know you are a bad world leader when even Sweden is sending anti-tank rockets to your enemy".
  • You know, the hill gets steeper when: "In Moscow, Russia’s Central Bank sharply raised its key borrowing rate from 9.5% to 20% in a desperate attempt to shore up the plummeting ruble and prevent the run of banks amid crippling Western sanctions over the Russian war in Ukraine."
  • And the rock gets bigger when: "Switzerland broke its historically neutral status to sanction Russia over its invasion of Ukraine.

In a statement Monday, Switzerland's federal council said it would adopt sanctions against Russia effective immediately. The measures, it said, would match those of the European Union, of which Switzerland is not a member.
The sanctions package targets various Russian companies and individuals, and involves freezing the personal assets of Russian President Vladimir Putin, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin, and Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov."
----------------------------------------------------------------------------

ps....Does this mean that secret Swiss bank accounts ain't a thing?

The broader questions will be "will the West finally wake up to their philosophy of arming foreign enemies through trade and shipping away their industries"? and "will we realize that our own policies have been undermining our liberty domestically so that the differences between our systems has been far more narrow?"

I'm enjoying a whole variety of brief reportage snippets popping up on various newsfeeds. I make no claim on their veracity. At worst, they are simply counters against Russia's well know long-standing reputation for their own propaganda prowess.
At best, they may really be offering us a peek into the reality over there.
You be the judge.

Anyway, this came across today from 'The Skimm":

On Saturday, Germany, the US, and other countries pedaled back their hesitations and agreed to cut some Russian banks off from SWIFT. The move makes it harder for those banks to access profits from international trade (think: on key exports to the Russian economy, like oil and natural gas). That’s after Putin’s aggression and sanctions pushed the Russian ruble's value down nearly 30%.

Online: Russia has been trying to pedal disinformation to justify an invasion. But Ukrainians have been winning hearts and minds with videos from the front lines — everything from Ukrainian women standing up to soldiers to guards telling a warship to "go f*ck yourself" before they were attacked. Meanwhile, Tesla CEO Elon Musk activated satellites to secure Ukrainians’ internet access. And hacker collective Anonymous has declared war against the Russian government. It’s clear the war isn’t just happening by land and by sea…it’s also happening in the cloud.

The above posts from my avatar are a tad serious.
So let's go do a tiny snarkfest.

I read this yesterday in the NYT. It is a quote from Nina Krushcheva, the great granddaughter of Nikita Kruschev, and her rather famous description of Vladimir Putin:

"He is a small man of five foot six, saying he is five seven".

Personally, I think that is clever merde'.

This won't have any effect on conditions on the ground.
