I've always been attracted to the upper quintile, albeit them usually being social outcasts , and what i've noted is they may be God's in whatever they do best, but often lack the simple down to earth common sense to apply it toward the rest of their existence

~S~
But you cant have it both ways
Kind of like what they did in 2008, where all the working folks got kind of screwed.
Consider it the government paying you to STAY HOME, just as we paid soldiers to go overseas and fight Nazi's in foreign countries in World War II
As I said before, the ESSENTIAL SERVICES ECONOMY IS BOOMING RIGHT NOW. Its never been a better time to be employed in the production and distribution of FOOD and MEDICINE!
I guess it's nice to be considered 'essential' then....
Remember unemployed people
like me> non essential, & wanting to work?
Someone temporarily losing their non-essential service job is nothing compared to the disaster that is happening in hospitals across the country, especially New York City.
Grand, take a few months of w/out pay

and get back to us then

Sorry, but killing people to open up your non-essential job is not worth it for the country. STAY HOME AND SAVE LIVES! The country is at war with a PATHOGEN and people going to work in their non-essential business's provide the pathogen with a means to spread and kill more people.

There are homeless people out there in worse shape than these people at home from their non-essential business's. Don't aid the enemy, STAY HOME! This is a national effort to defeat the pathogen.
Non essential to who?

if your economic future depends on a small business that you built from the ground up its very essential to you

there are a lot of odd ducks on this forum who are retired or foreigners, or in some other way not part of the regular economy to begin with

but they dont represent most Americans
Essential typically means necessary for survival today. Essential does not mean necessary to retire to an acreage in 15 years.
I would not expect a liberal to understand free enterprise

libs tend to be students, government workers, cogs in a giant corporation or welfare bums
Not on USMB. They all seem to be business owners, work from home, independently wealthy, or early retired. I don't recall meeting one liberal on here that is a blue collar worker.
There’s a lot of prejudice against liberals. I’ve been told many times by USMB members that I cannot be successful simply because I have liberal political views.
I'm just giving my observation. I've been here almost five years, and have been in other forums before this one. It's like that everywhere I go. Every liberal is at least college educated. Every liberal has a business or is independently wealthy, or early retired because they made so much money in life. Me??? I'm the only truck driver in the place.

Why don't I believe it? Because I do know "real" wealthy people and business owners, and very few are for Democrat plans of ridiculous taxation, tons of business regulations, more government control of businesses, and a high national minimum wage. These are things the poor usually embrace.
Liberals claim to be business owners yet they think its as easy as putting a sign over the door and raking in the money

they are clueless

Silly billy. I’m a business owner but one who has their priorities straight.
Is so you should not be dumping hate on small businesses that being hit the hardest by this economic shutdown
I was only dumping on the idea that the economic shutdown is more important than the health and lives of our fellow Americans.
Bullshit

Your stupid comment about retiring in 15 years to acreage was nothing but you looking down on small businesses that are working on a small margin between success and failure
I was only looking down on you and your opinion. The small business owners I know that have shut down are doing so to help the community because that’s their first priority.

Your attitude reflects the opposite.
Thats a typical lib reaction to anyone that disagrees with you

But how can you be sure that all the small businesses you are laughing at are owned by republican white males who married their baby‘s momma’s and believe in God?

you could be celebrating the demise of some of your own kind
What the hell are you talking about?

I explained why I think you’re wrong. You’ve just whined and bitched about me.
I am reacting to your opening comment about retiring in 15 years to acreage that you have yet to take back
Was I not being PC enough for you?
You were being very lib pc by smearing a group that liberals detest
I wasn’t smearing a group. I was attacking your logic. You don’t speak for all small business owners. Or did I miss the vote making you the spokesman?
I wrote:

“if your economic future depends on a small business that you built from the ground up its very essential to you”

and you respond by babbling about retirement in 15 years to acreage

you clearly have led a sheltered life
yeah. And I responded by stating your logic is flawed. We are talking about responding to a crisis as a nation by working back to what is essential for the community.

And you responded by determining what is essential for an individual.

Your focusing on the individual over the community is not the right thing to do now.

Isn't it a fact that socialists and fascists NEVER care for individual rights?

.
During times of national emergency, our nation has always focused at fighting the emergency at the cost of individual rights.

Previous generations haven’t been nearly so whiny about it.
Over a 100,000 Americans died in 1957 and 1968 ..........the world didn't get shut down for it..........

Perhaps Tricky dick caused a lot of the Stock Market BS with coming off Gold though..........so the Money laundered bets from the Federal Reserve don't screw the country when someone FARTS.
Still not nearly as bad as COVID-19.
'Based on population then versus now....I disagree.............and give that Statistics on these are EDUCATED GUESSES.........what people GUESS may be WRONG.........

The Virus will do what it wants to do..........you aren't gonna stop it......and they sure as hell haven't stopped it in China...........No damned way they did that.
So the brightest minds that have worked in infectious disease and epidemiology sit you down and say they think COVID could kill 2 million without significant costly mitigation.

No one in the world has the balls to ignore that.
Sweden.......Brazil.............yeah they are doing just that.........They are the lab experiments........

And some are wanting the healthy to get infected so that they can get over it and not be able to spread it ever again...........
Bolsonaro isnt brave. He’s a goddamn lunatic.

Sweden is making modified precautions but they have reason to rest a little easier given their affluent population, sparse population and highly functional health system. If only we had those advantages...
And 6 months from now who will be the one with less damage..........both sides of the equation.............

They are refusing to kill the economy over this...........they are refusing to shut down..........many have said this.............Some are doing it...............

History will decide by how this goes down ..........not your rambling.........might be the worst decision or it may be the best..............we are gonna find out.........and we can't stay shut down forever........we are only delaying the inevitable..............unless the summer shuts it down a bit.
It would be interesting to listen in on the conversations Fauci et.al. are having regarding target numbers. At want point do we call it? What are we considering "acceptable losses"? It seems like what they're mostly concerned with is the impact on health care services. They want to throttle the spread so hospitals are overwhelmed.

At some point, we'll need to go back to normal (or define a new normal) and find a way to live with the new disease.
Good question and one I'm sure they are talking about. They know it can't go on forever......might be something there they aren't saying.................

Might be streamlined HAIL MARRY MOTHER OF GRACE VACCINE PASS..........Some are already in Human trials.................I think they roll the dice early there.

You saying there is a vaccine?
it appears so....

Annual deaths from influenza are 20-60k. It would take 20 years to get to 1.7 million deaths.

As you can see, your claim that COVID isn’t going to kill as many as influenza is unsupported.
so why incite the public into a panic, and literally stop the productive worker ant(s) from producing?
~S~
I think that is all Trump was trying to do, not scare the pants off people so that they refuse to go to work even though its relatively safe.

Cuomo had an upbeat presser today.
1. More people leaving the hospital each of the last 8-days.
2. Fewer people entering the hospitals the last few days. (a trend or a blip? we'll know next week)

Not to jinx us, but it looks from the last few days that the US curve is bending downward to a peak, like the EU appears to be doing. We'll know that in the next week or two.

I would say information like this is why the lockdowns must continue. We might, just might be starting to make some headway against this thing. Here is some other good information to report.

The percentage rate of increase in confirmed cases per day has been declining for a few days now:

March 24, 2020 - United States - 54,916
March 25, 2020 - United States - 68,489 - 24.7% increase
March 26, 2020 - United States - 85,594 - 24.97% increase
March 27, 2020 - United States - 104,256 - 21.8% increase
March 28, 2020 - United States - 123,776 - 18.7% increase
March 29, 2020 - United States - 142,224 - 14.9% increase
Is that the infection, or unemployment rate going up daily?

Get ready to not have things, dumbass. You asked for it, begged for it, even.
Those are called NON-ESSENTIAL THINGS! The Essential services economy is booming!
When folks need money to buy food to eat, and money to pay their bills? IT'S ALL ESSENTIAL.
The check from the government will replace that. Consider it the government paying you to STAY HOME, just as we paid soldiers to go overseas and fight Nazi's in foreign countries in World War II.
We're all getting about $1,200 until we get back to work, which may be some time in May.
I hope you have a money tree in your home.
It won't be May. It will be July at the earliest, and it will be done slowly. In the mean time, the economy for essential services is booming!
You are such a Commie turd.

Just look at you gleefully celebrating almost all wage-earner jobs being lost. What a fucking traitorous asshole!

Bring back hanging for seditious pieces of crap, I say!
The country is being attacked by a PATHOGEN and you want to feed that PATHOGEN new hosts which will get more Americans killed. That's a threat to this country's security and economy. The fastest way out of this disaster is to stay in lockdown until the pathogen is defeated or contained. You'll save lives and heal the economy faster with that approach.
The nation is ALWAYS attacked by pathogens, that is what immune systems are for.

Stop your fear mongering. You are as bad as the FAKE NEWS is.

I've always been attracted to the upper quintile, albeit them usually being social outcasts , and what i've noted is they may be God's in whatever they do best, but often lack the simple down to earth common sense to apply it toward the rest of their existence

During times of national emergency, our nation has always focused at fighting the emergency at the cost of individual rights.

Previous generations haven’t been nearly so whiny about it.

No one in the world has the balls to ignore that.
Well put, we can't sacrifice 2.2m for a "brief shutdown".
That said, we can't keep the shutdown going any longer than absolutely necessary, especially knowing that some genius somewhere will find a vaccine or medication this year.
They already found them, it's just that they have to go through a lot of testing. The earliest all this can be completed is probably next year.

I wasn’t smearing a group. I was attacking your logic. You don’t speak for all small business owners. Or did I miss the vote making you the spokesman?
I wrote:

Well put, we can't sacrifice 2.2m for a "brief shutdown".
That said, we can't keep the shutdown going any longer than absolutely necessary, especially knowing that some genius somewhere will find a vaccine or medication this year.
No one wants to talk about it, but there is a point where the damage caused to society by a dead economy - even in terms of lost lives - is worse than the effects of the disease.
True, the economy can't take a big shutdown without major damage.
That said, the economy should be able to open with mitigation measures built into the restart.
Masks, testing for Covid, testing for antibodies, distancing, no big crowds, etc.
Gov. Cuomo said that we eventually need to get on with life, dating, socializing, etc.
IMHO that only happens when the vaccines are out and people dating can compare test results first.

I've always been attracted to the upper quintile, albeit them usually being social outcasts , and what i've noted is they may be God's in whatever they do best, but often lack the simple down to earth common sense to apply it toward the rest of their existence

This is a national effort to defeat the pathogen.

if your economic future depends on a small business that you built from the ground up its very essential to you

there are a lot of odd ducks on this forum who are retired or foreigners, or in some other way not part of the regular economy to begin with

Essential typically means necessary for survival today. Essential does not mean necessary to retire to an acreage in 15 years.
I would not expect a liberal to understand free enterprise

True, but new vaccines are being discovered all the time, look at the test development, company by company
1. CDC painfully slow tests, no capacity
2. Automated tests, faster results (Roche, et.al)
3. 15-minute test results (Avid)

Vaccines are in testing, but I saw on TV a new one from tobacco plants that might be a game-changer, hope it pans out.

I've always been attracted to the upper quintile, albeit them usually being social outcasts , and what i've noted is they may be God's in whatever they do best, but often lack the simple down to earth common sense to apply it toward the rest of their existence

I wrote:

and you respond by babbling about retirement in 15 years to acreage

you clearly have led a sheltered life

True, but new vaccines are being discovered all the time, look at the test development, company by company
1. CDC painfully slow tests, no capacity
2. Automated tests, faster results (Roche, et.al)
3. 15-minute test results (Avid)
4. 5-minute test results (Abbot Labs)

Vaccines are in testing, but I saw on TV a new one from tobacco plants that might be a game-changer, hope it pans out.
I just read a story today out of California. It's a short read if you care to look at it.

This is happening all over the world .......and almost all of it is from the SARs studies and lessons from 2003........even the Malaria drug used now is from YEARS of studies on SARs................

Yet nothing but PESSIMISM...........WE ARE ALL SCREWED from the dang Media.............Governors banning it now changing their minds because they hate Trump.

INSANITY ........there are dozens of these types of articles in the world right now.
Yes there are, but the news is going to ignore most of these stories and concentrate on who (of any notoriety) is dying from COVID.

While these technologies are giving us great hope for the future, what we really need is hope for the present. I think that if anything, we need to somehow quadruple the amount of N-95 masks so that we not only supply our medical professionals with plenty of stock, but have enough for the general public. It would help people feel at ease when going out among others, which would include work and socializing.

I'm staying home as much as possible, but like anybody else, still have to go to the store. I'm nervous about it because I have two of the major health conditions for death if I catch this thing, and I'm very close to being 60. In fact, data suggests one of my conditions is in first place when it comes to death from this virus. I certainly would feel so much better having a pack of these masks.

There is no possible way to have one out by September, even in spite of our desperation. They may be manufactured by then, but the testing will take several months afterwards.

To my knowledge, only the N-95 mask works on this virus. They say all others won't offer you much protection. The most important thing is not touching your face until your hands are throughly washed, or you use a sanitizer. It's even more important than the masks.

I find it funny that you use the user name care 4 all, but ignore the FACT that one of the reasons that Italy had so many deaths from this was due to their socialized medicine plan (medicare for all) and its inability to deal with any kind of mass sickness.
Just when I think there is a limit to your stupid, you say "hold my beer". The situation in Italy is the EXACT opposite of what you just said. Italy's death rate is so much higher because they have more older people. Do you know WHY they have more older people, you witless clown? "Socialized Medicine" .

Our hospitals and ICUs are being overwhelmed. What will your excuse be when we start making the same kind of choices over who does or doesn't get a ventilator?

LOL, you never cease to amaze with your stupidity. They have more old people because their young people are not having kids because they cannot afford to support them in that socialistic system. And why can't they afford kids? Because the government is taxing the shit out of them trying to support a failing socialized medicine system. socialized medicine does not ensure longer lives, it only ensures a miserable life. You are so out of touch with reality, its amazing.

Our hospitals are not being "overwhelmed". that may be true in NYC and parts of Cal, but no where else. Here in NOLA we have a high rate of corona cases but the latest data shows just over half of the hospital beds being used state wide. There is an outbreak in the city, but the rest of the state has very few cases and the hospitals are handling it.

In NYC they now have the 1000 bed hospital ship to handle the non-corona cases, your idol Madcow said that the ship would never get there as Trump promised-------but it did.
goodness ALMIGHTY

The Italians are the longest living people in all of Europe... And second longest living people in the world, with Japan being number one....

That has ZERO to do with their kids having children or not.

In the case of the Japanese, its genetics and a healthy diet. could be some of the same in Italy. But its also true that the average age goes up when the young don't have kids, and that is exactly what is happening in Japan and Italy, so the answer is probably a combination of those two factors. Attributing it to socialized medicine is a poor attempt to score a political point, and it fails miserably.
What fails miserably is pointing to countries where they have universal healthcare as though it is the reason people are being denied lifesaving care. Prioritizing ventilators is coming to a hospital near you.

Please, by all means, support your claim with actual data to support it. How does younger Italians having fewer children equate to older Italians living longer?

And yes "socialized medicine" does just that, it prolongs life. The Influence of Universal Health Coverage on Life Expectancy at Birth (LEAB) and Healthy Life Expectancy (HALE): A Multi-Country Cross-Sectional Study which is why Italy has such a high mortality rate...they have a lot more older people than anywhere else.

No, phycophantic asswipe, it's not just NY and CA. It's Albany fucking Georgia, it's Virginia. It's towns in the rust belt and the bible belt, all without sufficient beds and equipment to handle the influx of patients they are going to get. This virus is coming to, and overwhelming, a hospital near you.

In NYC they now have the 1000 bed hospital ship to handle the non-corona cases, your idol Madcow said that the ship would never get there as Trump promised-------but it did.
Your lord and savior made you look stupid...again. And you didn't even need his help! Let me guess...some right wing site told you how the Dolt in Chief really "owned that lib Maddow", right? You didn't bother to check if they got their facts right? You should...

like all libs when defeated by the truth, you resort to juvenile insults and raving like a loon.

Your hate is all you have, its very sad.
Once again you peg the irony meter! Get a new shtick, Fish. This "you're too whatever to respond to" is old. Put your big girl panties on and quit running away just because you can't provide facts or answer to whatever stupid thing Trump has you blindly supporting.
