POLL: Let's try to have a serious, interesting, informative conversation about Trump

Does Trump's character and history really matter to you?

  • 1. No. I think America has reached a point where I'm willing to overlook both things.

    Votes: 2 5.0%
  • 2. The stories of his character and history are lies spread about those who hate him.

    Votes: 14 35.0%
  • 3. Other (please comment)

    Votes: 24 60.0%

  • Total voters
    40
Okay, so I'll pledge to keep any criticism or any degree of attacks out of this conversation. Hopefully you will too, but we'll see how it goes.

Full Disclosure: I've been able to adjust my relationships with my Trump-voting friends and family to where we either don't discuss politics, or we just keep our political conversations at a point where we're agreeing on something. That's it. Those relationships are too important to us to risk. Period.

So I'm going to ask you guys the question I would ask them if I were willing to risk those relationships. It's at the heart of my concerns about MAGA, and I know it's a question often asked by people across the political spectrum who remain horrified about what's happening. But clearly, his base (NOT everyone who voted for him, but his BASE), clearly believe America is in serious danger and he is the one person who can fix this.

Personally, while I have several general issue agreements with MAGA (see link at bottom here), I also believe (as do many across the political spectrum) that getting what I may want politically is not worth selling my soul to anyone (and that's what I think it is), let alone a person of such deeply poor moral character and obvious mental instability. I/we also strongly disagree with this simplistic, heavy, ham-handed approach, refusal to collaborate/innovate, and obvious indications of European-style autocratic authoritarianism. That's just my personal opinion.

Please vote/comment, and no attacks are on the way in response. Thanks in advance.

Where does Mac1958 actually stand on the issues?
You are so biased that it isn't possible to have a conversation with you. You first need to have an open mind and realize that the left and the media haven't been truthful to you. You ate the food they threw at you without questioning the food.

By the way, CNN exit polling showed that out of the voters whose number one issue was saving democracy, 58% voted for Trump and only 40% voted for Harris.

I asked a clear question. You're not required to answer it. You're welcome.

This is not about Kamala Harris, or Joe Biden, or Hunter Biden, or Burisma or George Soros or Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton or Mickey Mouse.
That is pure nonsense - he was a Presidential candidate - characters flaws , if any, may be ignored if his opponents suck the big weenie. He was NOT a contestant in The Bachelor,

Perhaps one day.
This has been really interesting.

One of the poll options is EXACTLY what they say when someone criticizes Trump, that it's all a lie. I laid it right there for them. There it is, just waiting to be picked. Easy peasy.

But still, they can't just say it. They still have to attack and insult and complain about the questions and try to change the subject. I don't know if they're afraid it's some kind of trap or what. But then they WILL say it in ANOTHER thread.

This place never fails to fascinate.

Got it. I assume you voted (2) then, if you voted? I don't need the whole speech.
You say you 'don't need the whole speech' but you gave us a speech in the OP in which you said, amidst saying you wouldn't attack those who respond--a commendable pledge by the way:

". . .Personally, while I have several general issue agreements with MAGA (see link at bottom here), I also believe (as do many across the political spectrum) that getting what I may want politically is not worth selling my soul to anyone (and that's what I think it is), let alone a person of such deeply poor moral character and obvious mental instability. Option 1 suggests we don't care about character which puts it in the 'when did you stop beating your wife' category.

Option 2 suggests we don't have any criticism at all of President Trump which I doubt any intellectually honest MAGA Patriot would say.

And then in Option 3, you invited comments. Now since how you characterized Trump is pretty much the polar opposite of how those voting Option 3 see the situation, how are we to comment but to rebut in ways that directly or indirectly rebut your characterization of him?

Well, you could just pick an answer.

For example, Option (2) is EXACTLY what I've heard his supporters say for years. Years. So I was a little surprised that so many don't want to just say it here.

This isn't about me. The questions are clear. If you don't like them, that's fine.

You could have said Option 2 is what you have heard for years instead of the ad hominem implication. All it would have taken is a simple qualifier, i.e. MOST of the stories and history are lies. . .

I doubt seriously your statement is entirely true though as I don't know a single soul nor have I read anybody on social media or here at USMB who has no criticism of President Trump whatsoever.

But do we Patriots believe there is politically motivated and dishonest criticism and characterization of him by most of the left and even some on the right? Yes. Because that has been blatantly obvious.

If we saw President Trump as you characterized him in the OP, nobody would have voted for him. Your Option 3 gave us an opening to defend him re such a characterization.

I'll take that as a (2), thanks.
