people use morphine and other opiates everyday. when it is prescribed and considered a drug, is controlled and used as a medication, not a recreational activity.

same can be done with marijuana or any other addictive drug, for that matter. Cocaine solution is used in some instances as local anesthetic and it is a very good one for those uses.

But neither morphine, nor hydromorphone, nor cocaine solution as local anesthetic is considered as "harmless" "recreational" activity.

Pot is.
But is is addictive and harmful in many ways and in some instances - worse than opiates.

Should it be decriminalized? Yes. it should.

Should it be glorified as it is now? No.
And it is not only glorified it is basically propagated by many sources - with information which is not only deceitful but simply untrue.

I have remorse for drug addicts. A lot of times their addiction are just a result of really bad childhoods and other pressures. Cigarette smokers are addicts.

First off all, I didn't agree with him. I stated that "not true" isn't a legitimate rebuttal to anything. He didn't say that overdoses don't happen. You lied.

As for overdoses being rare when legalized, heroin would be regulated the same way legal drugs are. These deadly concoctions would be removed from the market. What was once done in a dark alley could be done in a clinic with clean needles.

It's the same as areas where prostitution is legal, and they are required to take tests for STDs. Pushing these products into the dark haven't stopped people from using them, as Hoffman's story proves.

Make them legal, and allow the government to regulate and tax them. Quit requiring addicts to go to some shady dealer in a back alley, so he can get a dirty product, and nobody can be held responsible.
