Philip Seymour Hoffman is dead

I've been sober for just over five years, and you always have that craving. Most of the times its not there, but it just requires something to set it off, and your tastebuds go mental. They can remember the taste, see. They never forget.

and that is the main problem. it's for life.

guys, you, the ones who KNOW, should be the ones in the front lines AGAINST legalization of any of this crap...

and you were tempted into it while very young, because the very young are the target market for this.

If you pass a 30 year mark ( or even earlier) without ever trying anything of that poison - you will never get tempted ( it's almost 100%) and if you get seduced earlier - you will always have to know that the dark temptation can hit you from behind any time life gets hard.

Build any defense you can have against the temptation - while you don't need it.

Hope you never will have to battle it. Ever.

Because keeping it illegal is helping stop people becoming addicted? It's easier to get heroin which is illegal than it is to get OxyContin. That should tell you something.

A very selfish person
He had a job
Many people would love to have
He had no money worries
Go to the best restaurants
Had a wife how adored him
Had three children who respected him
People looked up to him
What does he do......

Selfish person.

Because material things automatically makes one happy?

Nothing to do with material things,
I have known people who were drug addicts,
I have known people who have died from drug overdoses,
Stupid and irresponsible.

Few here, maybe none, knew Hoffman personally. If you're feeling sad when someone you never knew dies you need to seriously re-examine who you're coming to feel close to. Actors' characters aren't them, but many who fall into this cult of celebrity make the mistake thinking they are. That they know these people. But chances are you didn't know the first thing about him, or any other celebrity. It's nice to appreciate, but when appreciation becomes delusions there's a problem.

In Hoffman's case, he died because he was stupid. At some point way back he had the chance not to try heroin or other toxic drugs but chose to risk it. Now he's dead because of that decision. Oh well. Are pleanty of people in the world to feel sympathy for who meet tragedy through no fault of their own. Feel sorry for them, but don't feel sorry for stupid people.

while in theory you are correct, in reality this sensless death is just an example of what the culture of glamorous lifestyle can lead to. and that is what shuld be addressed on the example, plus people do have the tendency to identify with a known face, so that's natural.
Even a heroin addict as a dad is better than no dad - he had 3 kids and they are still small.

keeping it illegal is much better than making it legal. however there are ways to address the problem and I have provided the link how is it being done in the number of countries.

oxycontin causes the highest amount of overdose deaths and it is perfectly legal.

which only proves that the problem is not the legality of the issue.

Still putting words in people's mouths, I see. And, still so confused that you're changing your own opinion every few posts.

I wrote "damn drugs", which you said meant that wanted drugs legalized and that I "enabled" drug use.

Now THIS??

Give it up, vox.

Is this some half-assed attempt at haiku?

**** off, drugs glorificator.

you want more overdose deaths? I know it. But it is usually the people from your camp so you might rethink your stance :D

So my words, "damn drugs" is how you "know" what I believe.

Wow. I'm impressed.

Not.

:cuckoo:

No air bubble. He got a hot shot.

There has been a lot of that going around the east coast lately.

Then it was a murder, not an overdose.

The police are looking for the dealer that sold Hoffman the heroin laced with painkiller that's been killing so many users on the East coast. It's a wonder it hasn't spread across the country by now. Hoffman had 70 packets of the stuff. He must have been afraid he would run out.

It was fifty.

Yes it is. Oxycontin and Vicodin are so much better.

Oh really.

really. in order to cause problems it has to be much more than a small bubble.

Go on believing that.

Aproximately 6800 people die in American each day of the year. (Approximately 104 are drug overdoses.) This man's death is no more important or significant than any of the others.

"No, faith, not a jot; but to follow him thither with
modesty enough, and likelihood to lead it: as
thus: Alexander died, Alexander was buried,
Alexander returneth into dust; the dust is earth; of
earth we make loam; and why of that loam, whereto he
was converted, might they not stop a beer-barrel?
Imperious Caesar, dead and turn'd to clay,
Might stop a hole to keep the wind away:
O, that that earth, which kept the world in awe,
Should patch a wall to expel the winter flaw!"

-Hamlet, Act 5, Scene 1

Another great actor killed by his addiciton to drugs.

Another in a seemingly endless list of entertainers who have destroyed themselves through drug use... depressingly familiar... next slide, please.

I see four who presumably supplied Hoffman with heroin have been arrested. Source: 4 arrested in Philip Seymour Hoffman drug probe - CNN.com

So, that is a good, but it makes me wonder if the police would expend this much effort to analyze details, find and round up suppliers to a more typical drug abuser found dead in a rough section of the Bronx with a needle in their veins?

This death is tragic for the Hoffman family, but no more so than the family of a non-celebrity.

Perhaps we heard of the arrests due to Mr. Hoffman's celebrity. We cannot assume that the police were more diligent in his case.
