Philip Seymour Hoffman is dead

I think it is a tragedy that drugs claim another life, this idolizing of actors is very strange to me. If children under 10 can win Oscars or be nominated for best actress, then how hard is it? That's not even old enough to be a waitress or a plumber. And being a plumber is hard work.

And football/sports players.

We treat police and fire fighters like dirt but idolize men who play children's games.

The NFL is more like the gladiators in Rome than children's games. The fans want to see blood.

Never done heroin so dunno about what's normal. But from the moment this story broke I was wondering why the needle was still in his arm. And why if it's just a relapse and overdose he had so much. Almost 50 bags they're still saying. Heard it used to be a chronic user would do 2-3 bags a day. Whereas nowadays that's "breakfast." So if this was just a relapse after 20 years sober why'd he need so much?

Sounds more like suicide or planning for more than a relapse use and actually buying enough to last a week or so. Do most heroin users leave the needle in their arms? And do most people having a relapse buy a week's supply?

Why is the death of a movie star sadder or more significant than that of other people?
Because they are considered gods to the idol worshippers.
You never admired talent? Or are you just stupid enough to believe what you post?
I admire talent. Even people I don't like, like Julia Roberts. Saw an amazing performance in a recent movie. OsKosh County or something. However, that's as far as it goes for me. I don't care what she wears, eats, says, ***** or votes for. Unlike the idol worshippers.

how does admiration for talent suddenly become idol worship? Hyperbole much?

I gave examples. Read.
Isn't "Idol Worship" a term of hyperbole? It ascribes values, that are skewed beyond reason. In Mr. Hoffman's case, people were justifiably shocked by his death and regretful of the loss of his talent. People recognized the enormity of his talent. I doubt anyone considers him or any other celebrity as an "Idol" to be "worshiped". You're simply using 'idol worship' as hyperbole to dismiss the regret and sadness people feel when the truly talented are lost.

Perhaps you do not recognize talent or appreciate the benefits talent brings to our culture. That does not precisely translate to others engaging in idol worship.

Perhaps you don't recognize idol worship when you see it.
I don't see anything here but the public mourning a talented person and a few others clumsily trying to pass judgment on them by way of self righteous hyperbole.

Haven't visited the thread in some days... has Hoffman's condition changed yet? Still dead? Still talking about it?

Irony, look it up. I'll save my mourning for a friend, family, war vet or cop dying in the line of duty. You can keep your idol worship mourning, I didn't say you couldn't.

I just don't get heroine. I just don't get it. I've rocked from the best of times and probably in the 60's tried everything, but the one thing I knew was when a drug was too good. I'm from the land of meth. Hamilton Ontario. We partied hardy all night long and for days on end. But a drug like smack?

When I ended up in LA and I could have a smorgasboard of drugs to party on, I always chose the party on. NOT stuff that made you drool and go to sleep. Made no sense to me. Heroin right from the get go is whoa geeze you are hooked. There's no buying time. You are an addict. Cripes I cannot for the life of me that any one as intelligent as Seymour is still buying dying time.

My heart breaks for his wife and children. What a waste to lose this giant of a man all to smack. What a pity.

Some heroin addicts were prescribed opioid pain medication that provided their addiction. Once the prescription expires, the addiction remains and heroine is a cheap choice to satisfy the addiction.

It's not. But due to their profession, they touch more people's lives. It's also shocking to see someone who seemed to have it all through it away.
