Perry (R) bailing on S.C. forum/debate

The Perry apologists are falling over themselves to defend his SECOND missed debate in a row LOL. AGAIN, what is he going to do that firefighters and other personnel aren't already doing?

A catastrophic natural disaster is ravaging the citizens of Texas, causing potentially tens of millions of dollars in damages, and having the governor pause his presidential campaign and address his responsibilities at home and this is the left's reaction.

Once again you demonstrate definitively the classlessness, immaturity and narrow mindedness of the left.

Never miss an opportunity to criticize. I have family that is being affected by these fires, obviously you don't understand this issue.

The people that have been personally touched by disasters like this understand Perry's actions and respect him for it.

Some of the idiot dimocrats ought to take a look at the Republican debate schedule beyond this Thursday's.

And then if Perry skips say 6 - 8 of them for whatever reasons, come back and give it another try. Thanks.

Maybe Perry's supporters in SC can pray for him to change his mind.

Such a condescending and bigoted comment. Yes, praying for God's assistance in times when people are facing issues that they can not change is stupid. Stupid, moronic people pray, and any politician that admits to praying is dumb.

The left despises Christianity and religion in general, and your posts demonstrate that animosity and hate.

Yet nobody has addressed what his purpose or "responsibility" is with regards to the fire...surveying the situation and speaking about it hardly sounds like an effective measure. It's not a partisan issue, Obama, Bush, you name it...it's a ceremonial appearance that does little other than appeasing those that feel it should happen.

I was hoping he'd answer a question or two about the 26% uninsured in his State:
Total Population - Uninsured - Kaiser State Health Facts

we have like 12 threads on that , its hard I know but try and focus.....or just start a I hate Perry thread and flush your brain there...thx.

Everyone else talking about it does not equate to the candidate who is governor of that state in question addressing it to the American public he wants to be President of...

And if he hadn't gone back then people would criticize him for campaigning while his state is burnin
g to the ground. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

Are the fires that bad in Texas?

If so, then he probably has to be there. He still is the governor, after all.
SAN ANTONIO | Mon Sep 5, 2011 11:22am EDT

(Reuters) - Sixty separate wildfires, whipped by strong gusts of wind spawned by Tropical Storm Lee as it moved north, burned across Texas on Monday, destroying homes and leaving at least two people dead, authorities said.

The Texas Forest Service said it responded on Sunday to 63 new fires that burned 32,936 acres, including 22 new large fires.

Authorities in Gregg County, in northeast Texas, say a fire there killed a 20 year old woman and her 18 month old daughter, who were trapped in their mobile home by flames.

Officials said the worst of the fires was east of Austin, where the Bastrop County Complex fire stretched for 16 miles. has destroyed more than 20,000 acres, and was zero percent contained.

Wildfires are horrible things....I have nothing but good wishes for those people and for the firefighters to get those fires out soon.

Is this any surprise really? The fires have been raging for some time now BUT he decides now that he's needed back in the Republic of Texas  He skipped the first debate and now he bails on this one. :clap2: Whats up bruh? I think he KNEW he was going to be asked some tough questions. The Forum was set-up for participants to be individually questioned by three people and he could'nt take the heat apparently ;)

Gov. Rick Perry to Skip Labor Day Forum, Return to Texas to Address Wildfires - Summerville, SC Patch
Perry was scheduled to attend Senator Jim DeMint's forum of Republican presidential contenders in Columbia at 3 p.m.

Is there a point in our immediate future?

Plenty of time between September 2011 and November 2012 to do that...

For now, he should take care of urgent state matters ahead of political debates...

But you knew that....

I merely despise people who take a condescending attitude towards my right to hold the rational opinion that prayer does not work.

Yes, the governor's responsibilities during a catastrophic disaster is purely ceremonial. Much like Britain's Queen, American governor's really don't do anything or have any power.

Great point. Welcome to the board, I can't wait for more insightful posts like this. :clap2:

So, it is your opinion that prayer is irrational..... talk about condescending fuckwads and you show up.

Who is doing that? Who is insulting you for not believing in prayer? No one, I don't believe anyone is, it is you that interject your hateful feelings towards religious people.

And what will Perry do? Grab a water hose, build a backfire, join Bush in cutting brush? Seems to me a leader seeking to be the next POTUS would use the debate as a forum to explain his position on responding to every region of the US from fire, flood and other natural and man-made disasters.

No. I think its fair. I applaud him, in fact. His first duty is to the people of Texas, not to the national Republican party. There will be other debates.

If he can be in TX (travel is not impeded) then he should be in TX...

Only a moron would expect him to go to a debate instead....
