People who study the origins of civil wars see 'indicators' the US is on the brink of conflict, Yale historian says

Maybe some rioting, but that's likely about it IMO.

  • Yale history professor Timothy Snyder spoke with Insider about the future of American democracy.
  • Snyder said factors like polarization and alternative realities indicate the US is close to conflict.
  • But Snyder said he thinks it's even more likely that the US could cease to exist.

Though the idea of another civil war in the near future seems far-fetched to many Americans, people who study such conflicts might disagree, according to Timothy Snyder, a history professor at Yale University.

You have to be willfully blind, or just outright stupid to not see what is coming.

I believe the Union is about to split and believe Texas will be the cause of it and if not California will be because Trump won in 2024.

America has become so bitterly divided and it seem we are marching toward a divorce that will lead to massive bloodshed while China smiles…

Maybe. I guess it’s time for a refresher course to be given to states that think they can break away from the Union. Failed last time and will fail next time.

I don’t know about this time seeing both sides have true hate for each other…
Perhaps. But whichever side decides to try to break away is in for a fast and rude awakening. No milita can stand up to the army of the United States of America.

No insurrection will ever end this Union.

Perhaps someday the constitution will be changed to allow states to withdraw from the Union, but that would take years.

So what would civil war look like to you?
A portion of the nation declares it's independence and fields an official army?
Guerrilla warfare?
Constant rioting?

I think too many people can't be bothered to fight. They expect their armed forces to fight in other countries. Not at home.

If that.

.

You don't need a Militia to bring this country to its knees.
Piss off the truckers and they can bring this nation to a fucking halt ...

Corporate America will be the first ones to crush it. Anyone that thinks for a minute big money is going to let their gravy train come to a screeching halt, so a bunch of ignorant fucks can run around playing soldier, has been sniffing to many of their own farts.

It will come in the form of localized rioting and destruction.
Strong possibility of funding from other countries.
Not just China and Russia.

Key will be simultaneous outbreaks in almost every city. Events in just one two cities would be put down by federal storm troopers.

Less than urban areas will hardly notice until the store shelves are bare.

It's not going to be that type of civil war. The coming war is going to be everywhere, and will likely begin as a race war.

The bloody end will see either the Republic reborn, or the dictatorship being created, fully in power.

Major urban areas will burn the people who live in them will first bleed, then starve to death. City blocks will fight against city blocks.

Look at the wars in the Balkans for an idea of what it will be like.

None? Like, the Viet Cong? The Taliban? You seem to believe that an all-volunteer U.S. military, whose members come from all these communities, will take orders to slaughter their fellow state citizens. Too many would refuse and once that kind of schism opens in our military, REALLY bad outcomes are on the way. Just picture U.S. forces rolling into cities or towns and have video out there of them gunning down Americans. Pretty soon, you'd have "rogue" units doing the same against their fellow soldiers and marines.

When you consider that this all began over an outsider being elected to head the government for 4 years, I think it's pretty easy to see where the real evil exists. Hint: It AIN'T coming from main street USA.
